Hmm
tough decision between Wicked and Phantom of the Opera.
I think I like Wicked a little better. But when it comes to music, Phantom of the Opera kicks ass.
The theme that drives Wicked is what I like about it. It's about this one girl's drive to do her best and yet discrimination against her causes her to become evil.
It's quite compelling

Definitely Little Shop of Horrors first, but I think I have a tie between Wicked, Les Miserables, Sweeny Todd, CATS, and Hairspray... yes, quite a few, and most of them full of campy goodness. =D

AH! WICKED!
I'm a musical junkie. But I have to say that my all time favourite musical is Wicked. The prequel/backstory to The Wizard of Oz.
I love the fact that the story is from the Wicked WItch of the West's perspective. Especially how Dorothy doesn't show her face once in the entire play.
Winnie Holtzman is a great script writer, and Stephen Schwartz' music is spectacular.
I love everything aobut it. Love = Freedom

Did you know that Tim Burton was gonna make a movie of Sweeny Todd with Johnny Depp in it?

I don't think it will be a stop-motion movie... Probably live action . I'm looking so mouch forward to it, because not only is Depp ver hot, but his singing voice is beautiful!

I'd have to say its like a 5 way tie between West Side Story, Avenue Q, Phantom of the Opera, Singing in the Rain, and Seussical the Musical. Even though West Side Story is a little over done I still love it. Avenue Q and Seussical the Musical are hilarious of course Avenue Q shouldn't be seen if you can't take a joke. And Phantom of the Opera and Singing in the Rain are classics. I mean Gene Kelly is the greatest of all time and pretty much all the movies he is in are great. Those are just my top 5. There are still a lot more musicals that I like because, well there are a lot more out there.

Ok, mine is so awesome...
...the little mermaid...
...oh ya! So mature of me!!! I know! It's like, wut I grew up with (seriously, my life would be like, nothing like it is if I never watched that movie) so I love it! For stage productions I don't really know, maybe How To Succeed in Buisiness Without Really Trying, but I was in a production of that so that could be why...

You're right, Gene Kelly's pretty awesome. I think 'Singing In The Rain' was one of the first Broadway musicals I loved. And, dude, everyone's gotta love the Disney. I gotta say I love The Lion King the most, but then there's Mulan, Aladdin, The Beauty and The Beast, Pocahantis (the very first movie I saw!), and of course, The Little Mermaid.
Good stuff, man, good stuff.

I'm not surprised. 'Sweeny Todd' seems right up Tim Burton's alley. =]

OMG! Musical theatre is one of the least fulfilling art forms I have ever experienced. The music is often half rate and the dancing and acting is cheesy. Most of them do not have any sort of profound connection to relevant issues, human nature, or life in general. In the course of history, straight plays have been more influenctial and philisophical than thier musical cousins. Musical theatre also presents a distorted image of life, to the point where any attempt at a provocative outlook is undermined by the cheesy songs, dancing and acting. I have much respect for all of these art forms but only in seperate venues. The culmination of them all into one performance is an expericence I find to be very distracting, overwhelming, and uncomfortable. This probably wont get me many friends, and its not very gay of me (LOL), but when I saw this post I felt the need to enlighten you all (LOL) to the greater possibilities of "traditional" theatre. Just my opinion.
PS: The term "straight play" has no connection to sexuality, it is a term used to differentiate between a straight up play and other forms of theatre. Much love! Peace
