Ok this is driving me up a wall right now. So me and my friends are getting into an argument. They think that it's your choice to be gay or straight and well I'm more than positive that it's not. So can I have some opinions on this or some web site to back up my thought because thats the only way they will believe me. Thanks so much people!!!! For me at least, it was definitely not a choice. I think that it's at least genetic in origin. "Try not. Do or do not, there is no try."

I think homosexuality is either present before birth or develops very early in life. I get upset whenever I hear it's a "choice."

Yeah...for me it definitely wasn't a choice. You can't choose to whom you'll be attracted just like you can't choose whether or not you'll like cake. I like cake, but I was never like "I'm gonna start liking cake now".

I think it depends on what you class as being gay, perhaps being attracted to boys is something you're born with, but actually dating/having relationships/sex with boys is a choice. So if finding males attractive makes you homosexual, then I think its a born thing, if you think that living a 'gay lifestyle' is what makes you homosexual, then I think its a choice.

Having people around me who seem to fool themselves thinking that being gay is a choice, it gets to me. Because to be honest I don't think anyone would choose to live a life first in secrecy then in ridicule and embarassment (that is on the part of families and the others). I agree with the some of those that say that its probably genetic or from early life. I ended up snogging one of my best friends when I was 6 or so and "gay" never ever came up so... haha, ur all gunna hate me for this but.. i dont think ur born with it. i agree with the perons who said ur attraction is involuntary, but ur actions in relation to ur feelings are total choice. i think its also the environment ur brought up in and ur personality. i mean im CHOOSING to accept the attraction to both sexes and say im bi, but that because my peronsality is telling me that i am who i am and my parents have always said be urself.... even if my dad is a massive homophobe lol

I'm not sure if you are necessarily born with it, but I do know, at least in my case, that it was not a choice.

I guess for a lot of people, it was never a choice. And I do get flustered when people think it is. Carrying out homosexual acts is debatable as a "choice," or at least we should define what that means. If you want to dress up like a flower and parade down the street, that's totally fine. But if you want a relationship of trust and love, then we all have the same 'options' as heterosexual people.
