I was just curious, how many people out there are boy scouts or girl scouts? Personally, I'm an Eagle scout and its been a big source of stress and misery in my life. I don't really care if the BSA take away my awards and kick me out, but these days I work at a boy scout camp, and I'm always scared of being accused of pederasty. I love what I do, and the kids mean so much to me, but I hate myself for working for one of the most close minded organizations in the world.
It hasn't been an entirely negative experience. I met my first major crush through scouting, and right now both of my roommates are gay eagle scouts. So who else has had to deal with scouting? Are some other countries more lenient than the US? What sort of trouble did you get into?

I was a boy scout for 2 years... but couldnt take the bullying so quite which is really sad cos i really love it there
cept' the leader was a old army person and kept using word like sissy, faggot, poofter
and after people accuse you of being gay the old man keep picking on me and yelling
so all in all it was one of the worst expieriences of my life!!!

I did scouting in Hong Kong and found it very enjoyable. I joined late so didn't really get many or any badges before I left it, but I had fun and made new friends. After I left I did cadets in Australia and whenever I came back we'd do drills with old scouting friends and the scout master was more than happy to do that sort of stuff. It was great. To me, that sounds really odd. In my personal experiences, I have never had scout leaders who even talked to the scouts, it was mostly adults talked to adults and kids talk with kids. Any sort of pressure or harassment came from peers.
