here in the us and in israel, conversion doesn't take too long, unless you choose a haredi (ultra-ortodox) shul, wen i was stil in ortodox shul (i'm reform now) i helped young people wit conversion. 1. most people convert in about a year or so, point being that you get to know ALL the jewish holidays, it realy depends on how ready you are. 2. you must to be cut, its one of most important (the israeli consulate wont even look at you if your not cut) 3. you have to learn biblical hebrew, if you know modern, or simplified, hebrew is fine but try to understand the traditional form 4. it doesn't cost a lot of money, you just have to buy stuff like kipah, talit, tzitzit, sidur, tefillin, kidush cups, kosher utensils etc., i have about 2000 dolar in judaica, and most of it was bar mitzvah gifts... sometimes you have to donate money wen you ready to convert 5. wen your ready, you imerse in mikvah and get a hebrew name. after that comes bar mitzvah, more hebrew study, but that depends on wat shul you choose, if you want reform, go for reform, over half of our converts swich to reform or masorti after they finish, either way, you'll be jewish in everyone's eyes, בהצלחה! (good luck!)
