I have seen many people on this forum express their disbelif in god, aswell as their problems with organized religion. I personally feel like religion is the root of many of the world's problems. There was also a thread entitled "would the world be safer without religion" and many people answered "yes".
That being said, should we ban religion? Afterall, if the world would be safer without it, shouldn't we act in the interest of world safety?
Thoughts? Comments?

I believe the world would be more safe if people with religions would all be put in a humongous cage.

NO! I may not believe it myself but I will definitely support the basic rights of those that do. After all, there is still no proof that it is false, and furthermore, religion itself is generally not harmful, it is the powers that be who use them.

We couldn't ban organised religion if we tried, all we could do is force it underground.

Religion does serve a purpose.. It provides a hope for something beyond this life. I personally don't discuss my beliefs, but I will say that I do not follow any organized religion.
My response to this.. The world would be better off without the people who take advantage of religion. But religion itself does have a good purpose. So, no, we should not ban it. No those pants don't make your butt look big. It doesn't need any help looking big.

i agree with the above, the problem isnt religion, the problem is people who take bits and pieces of religion and apply some parts and not other parts when they feel like it.

No, we shouldn't. But, we must educate the religious, we must limit the power that religion holds on society, we must get rid of its ability to be used as a tool of the ruling class to mislead the workers, but we must not forcibly get rid of it per se.

Obviously not. To ban anything serves only to subdue values of openness and free thought. As already stated, it will be through proper education and time that religious fallacies will be done away with. Only the fool seeks to subdue through force, whereas the wise man will gain victory through reason. (and a healthy dose of manipulating one's audience... which at the moment, the religious are much better at doing than the logical) "Where we have strong emotions, we're liable to fool ourselves." - Carl Sagan

Banning religion?
LMAO
Why would you want to do that? Not only would it be impossible to enforce but would just encourage rebelious, anarchist groups.
Sure religion has had a violent history (e.g. Crusade) but there's really nothing wrong with it, it provides a set of answers for the questions science is yet to answer. It also sets out moral and ethical guidlines that all people should follow.
I personally am not religious, but banning it would just be ludicrous, and i would.could never support it.
