I was wondering if anyone here agrees with this......
Who knows or cares if whom ever you worship is real of not. Society is kept alive because of relgion. Since the begining of time, people rely on relgion to give themselves meaning. Its not about who's right and who's wrong, its about the fact that human's need relgion to survive.
Am I crazy?

I agree. If you believe that you came from dity and that is where you end and nothing more, were is the releaf and reason to live?
I see no harm in believe in something like God. It gives me hope and makes me feel that I have a reason for being. I like that . And what harm does it do anyone that I feel this way? I do not force nothing on anyone. Living for the day, Working for tomorrow. Taking life as it comes and making it what I want.

As far as I can see, religion (not any particular one, just religion in general) wouldn't have lasted for over 5000 years if it didn't do something to the human mind. Whether its like Nait_Boi and it gives you hope or its used as a way of explaining what we don't know (which, I know is becoming rarer and rarer these days) or for in a time of crisis. I wouldn't know if society is kept alive by religion but its certainly playing a very heavy part in it. You only have to see the reactions to the Da Vinci Code to realise how strongly some people believe.

Its when things become as strong as the reactions some ppl have towards Da Vinci where things become a problem... We are supposed to respect the opinions of others and yet in this case the Church does not respect Dan Brown's opinion of Christianity and is condemning it... its when religious leaders become hypocrites like this that i believe things are going too far
Sure its good but when people become too dependant on it they defend it too personally and you get things like terrorists

To be fair tho, those who are defending the church have that faith inbuilt into them and so they would condemn it - for it suggests that all that they based their religion on is completely false. But I agree, they should be able to take in their point of view. The problem is (and anyone feel free to correct me) there are falling Catholic 'audiences' in church and the book - and now the film - isn't exactly going to change that trend.. just accentuate it Life is like a sewer: What you get out of it, depends on what you put into it

I hate talking about the Catholic church but...
I really won't expect any less from them. No offence, I do not mean every one just mean the base of the chruch (Ie. pope and extrem followers) It is this that gives the impression that Christians are evil and a very "cult" like religion.
In history the Catholic chruch was known to burn or alter parts of the bible if it never fit what they tought. I remember reading before about how one of the books burt was based on homosexual relationships. Now, wither this is true I guess we will never know... Anyways, my point is that not all churchs in Christianity is against this movie. In fact, my mother was telling me the other week that they were promoted to go see it. Living for the day, Working for tomorrow. Taking life as it comes and making it what I want.

Lol, i know this is kinda off-topic but has anyone ever seen the anime Neon Genesis: Evangelion?
It was after seeing that that i realised a LOT of things in life including the power of faith but also its destructive abilities... the story itself is a re-interpretation of the Bible based on the idea that it was a prophecy rather than a telling from history. That series completely changed the way i thought about all religions and i thkink it mightve even been what made me aetheist... i suggest you all watch it if your interested in debating religion and things like this
It was actually written by a drug addict but the concept is a very valid one and is a very convincing presentation just like the Da Vinci Code is...

Q: What is the difference from a Religion and a Cult? A: Nothing
Whats a cult? It's a place where sad people go so they can feel happy and eventually kill themselves for the "better of the cult" Whats a religion? It's a place where sad people go so they can feel happy and eventually kill themselves for the "better of the religion"
The only difference is that religions get tax exemption and have killed a whole lot more people, but they call them crusaders and martyrs. So why do they seperate themselves? Because religions like to say our god is real and is holy. What do you mean holy? I would ask. He creates life, they say. So I respond, but if you look at it, god is athe biggest factor of death as well. The bloodiest wars and persecutions were from one religion to the other. So if you praise a God(s), then prepare to die an early death for beliefs that may not even be true. Remember to put on a happy face.

That isn't true...many religions focus on the idea of loving thy fellow man. Don't blame religion for the twisted acts that man does. The bible never told anyone to kill another for the sake of God, because God forbid us to kill eachother. It is considered an act of sin. It only takes a few asshole people to say "They believe the wrong thing and so let us teach them our beliefs, and if they do not accept them, then we kill them." Then they call it a "Holy war" and say God would want it that way. If people really had faith in God and his teachings, then they would say that God does not command this because God does not want us to kill eachother. I understand I really focused on the Chrsitian and Jewish idea more then any other, but it is the ones that I know best.
Once again, don't blame religion for the acts of man, it was man who decided to do it. Living for the day, Working for tomorrow. Taking life as it comes and making it what I want.
