?Born gay?

I was thinking were we born gay or did we learn it over a period of time. I personally think that we were born gay. Some of us might remember looking at a guy or playing around with another boy. Then we thought nothing of it, or what made us this way. But as we got older we started to question it, and we understood it better. Then we finally learned the common label for it as being gay. So back to my point i think we were born gay. What do you think? Don't be affrayed just tell me what you think. Thanks!

i believe that you are born gay cause if people do believe in god he made u this way, but i also belive that you can force urself to not be gay by rejecting your feelings, life is so cruel i kno, but being born the way you are is what makes everyone so unique, if we were all the same life would be boring, you are who you are, and i do belive that you are born gay, just the way your born into whatever ethinicity.....

In the end, this is one of the major psychological questions that exist. It falls under a wonderful umbrella question of "Nature-vs-Nurture": are you born gay or does your environment (thus what you "learn") make you gay.

Science is currently seeking to find a genetic difference between homosexuals/bisexuals and heterosexuals. So far, it has found simple thought processing differences, but this has yet to be observed on a wide scale display and this is also what they are not looking for.

Some scientists- mainly Christian scientists- believe that it is a genetic difference that causes homosexuality, much like a genetic difference causes Down Syndrome, Disassociative Personality Disorder (or Multiple Personality Disorder), and Schizophrenia, just to name a few. They believe that it is a weaker element in the Evolutionary chain of events (Survival of the fittest does not apply to muscles but on your ability to reproduce. Turns out, same sex couples can not reproduce unless with outside help [or if they sleep with the opposite sex, which would defy what their motivations are for.].). Hence, they are searching for a "cure" to solve the issue.

Personally, I feel as if homosexuality is something that is instilled within the person at birth. It is not a disorder, a disease, or an illness- it is merely another way of life. Most people thought three hundred years ago that having skin with a darker pigmentation was indicative of a disease. That has been proven inaccurate.

However, there are people who can "become straight" by denying their inner passions due to parental, societal, religious, or peer pressures. Is this a moral behavior of changing your inner appearance to conform with what others want? I, personally, do not believe so.

In the end, people are hardwired different ways. Some people learn differently. Some people have different passions or interests. Homosexuality is just another way to love. Until I see passions, interests, and learning patterns to be ruled as a mental disorder, I will never consider homosexuality (or, love) to be a disorder, nor will I believe it is learned throughout life.
---

Addendum;
while the attraction to the same sex is not learned, the stereotypes and "behavior patterns" very well are.
Kind words aren't always as kind once they have been spoken.

i dont think that you're born gay. i think its something that you become over time. when we were all little kids we didnt really think about sex or guys and girls in the way that we do now. i think that its just something you start to notice and then it grows on you over time.

i also think it evolves over time. the gay "instences" when you grow older become more and more obvious to you i guess until you realize..... ususally in your teens...... that you are gay.

You have very good points. I guess u can beleive u were born gay or it's a choice. I for one beleive I was born this way. it's like asking a straight person if they were born straight.. of course what are they going to say. It was a choice if I wanted 2 I could've woke up this morning and decided 2 be gay today?
well I like the post, good work.

I think its a choice.
When were young, the normal routine is boys say "ewww...girls.." and yet still feel no real desire to be with their male compainions. I think when we reach our adolescent stage and were "finding ourselves" then we make a descision. Some immediatly go for the opposite sex. Yet some other kids may have grwn up around the opposite sex, and may find no interest in them. And unfortunatly, some are so influenced by others, they immediatly become brainwashed with what others want, so they never really live life to the fullest.

I think it depends on the individual. Some people are probably born gay because of genetics, and some people are probably gay because of environmental reasons when they were growing up.

For me, I don't think I was born gay, because I remember being attracted to girls when I was younger. I only became attracted to guys when I was like 13 (puberty?). I know it sounds ridiculous, but I think my gayness can be attributed to the fact that I've been going to an all boys school basically my whole life. Without girls around for so many years, I probably just got used to seeing guys, and hence became attracted to them. I'm probably way off though.

Another theory is that everyone is born bi, and their sexuality develops as they grow up. I don't really think that one's true though because if it were there should probably be a lot more gay ppl.

i think that our family's homosexual genes are spread thru generations. so yeah i do believe that we were born gay. I've brought this up in like my marine bio class and i've even gotten the teacher discussing it. haha. but i also believe that your fasmily would be able to tell if you were gay by the way you acted in ur childhood days. like me, i played house and i played with barbie dolls and was adopted into an all-girl family. so it kinda wasnt a big change for me when i started to like boys. lol

You know, i hope they NEVER find a genetic cause for being gay. If they did, they'd probably be able to identify your sexuality even before you were born. This isn't science fiction. Parents could tell with a simple test if a baby was gay or not. Would some homophobic mom have an abortion instead of giving birth to a gay baby?

I like it the way it is.. with nobody knowing what casues you to be gay. What's life without some mystery, some lack of knowledge? IF important things like your sexuality are known ahead of time, we might end up living in a world of designer babies -- how weird would that be? "Doctor, I want 4 kids: a str8 boy, a str8 girl, and the rest gay.. and they all better be blond, buff, and strong enough to take out the trash."

I say let Nature decide, without screwing around with our genes.

Some more thoughts.. and, hey, sorry i posted a double last time.

I don't think theyre ever gona find a single "gay gene." But theyre gona keep trying, cause science is science. If anything they'll find that sexual attraction is way complicated -- like a lot of different genes that make up somebody's "sexual profile." Like a guy already said in this forum, I think that we are all born "bisexual." We all like intimacy, right? Does a baby care who's fondling it or who's shoulder it barfs on?

So maybe it really is nature plus nuture, and there's no easy answer about who's going to be mainly str8 or mainly gay. I kinda like it things the way they are. Would it really be important to know who was gay and who wasn't in 2nd grade ? To me, it was only important when i pubed, and i'd had 13 years to grow and think about stuff. I'm glad my parents didn't know about my future sexuality when i was in 2nd grade. But what if it had been known from my genes that i was gay from birth? Sounds like a lotta added pressure to me! LOL
