What are your 5 favourite tunes at the moment?
Date: 2007/06/12 04:27 By: White_Diamond Status:

I was just really curious to see what everyone else was listening to and why. Here are my top 5...

1. "Here (In Your Arms)" by Hellogoodbye.
Aside from Fall Out Boy I'm not one for emo music- but I love this emo powepop tune. It's so catchy!! Plus there is something totally sexy about the lead singer.

2. "Something Kinda Ooooh" by Girls Aloud
100% pure power pop. I bloody love this song and its's also very, very catchy.

3. "Gone" by Kelly Clarkson
It's off the Breakaway Album and it's down right bitchy. Go Kelly!

4. "I'm In The Mood For Dancing" by The Nolan Sisters
Utterly cheesy so naturally- I love it!

5. "I'm Just Here For The Music" by Kylie Minogue
An unrealeased track that was recorded for Body Language album but dropped. THing is, its better than anything that made it on to the album. Youtube immediately!

1 "Matadjem Yinmixan" by Tinariwen
I love that drone that the guitars do. It's simple, catchy, and it's just such an original sound. Love it! My #1 song right now.

2 "Imagine" by Avril Lavigne
She's doing her version of John Lennon's original. It's such a beautiful song with a beautiful message.

3 "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart
I listen to this so I can hear that mandolin at the end. Why couldn't they have that through the whole song ?

4 "La Camisa Negra" by Juanes
Very latin, and has good musical structure. It's a great change of pace.

5 "Captain Kidd" by Great Big Sea
I just love the energy in this song!
"Try not. Do or do not, there is no try."

This is from my iTunes smart playlist of high-rating songs I've added in the past 2 months. (Yes, I am one of the maybe .01% of iTunes users who actually a) rate their music, and b)make smart playlists.). In order of play count, not necessarily likiness:

1. White People for Peace - Against Me! (The second-best punk band of all time, who played in Sydneytown the other week! Whoo! First [and subsequently second] row with NO barrier! And possibly the most homoerotic mosh experience of my life.)

2. Posed to Death - The Faint (a nice, boppy-yet-heavy electrosynthtechnoindiepopdancerave song, the sort of music I get into when I don't feel any sort of strong emotion for a few months.)

3. Atlantis to Interzone - Klaxons (as above. Incidentally, a few months ago I would have said that Klaxons suck ass in the bad way, so that shows what timing does for you.)

4. Fake Empire - The National (I was bored with my lack of good indie music recently, so I was searching Pitchfork [ugh, of all places] and came up with these blokes' new album. It's good, and a big change from electrosynthtechnoindiepopdancerave.)

5. I See a Darkness - Bonnie 'Prince' Billie (in a similar vein to above, only instead of Pitchfork it was an indie friend of mine from the mountains who outdoes me in hipster fashion ALL the time, who recommended it. Quite le good.)
Music that people with taste are listening to this week:

Wonderful, from Wicked. A brillient look into how history really does work, as well as a nifty song with a classicaly American style.

No Good Deed, also from Wicked. I like Elphaba's chanting and moral dillemas.

Grace Kelly, by Mika: loving the style, the class, the piano, and the classy background voice lady.

Lollipop, by the Chordettes: I'm just a sucker for the old, romantic noir American styles of harmonies and sweetness.

This. I like his costume in the second half, and I love the lines "Don't you ever/ Lower yourself/ Forgetting all your standards" and "Ridicule is nothing to be scared of". Less old than the Chordettes, but slightly old, none the less. It's in colour, though.

eh he he he he...

1: "Nobody's Perfect" by Hannah Montana
cuz i'm that childish

2: "Girlfriend (Featruing Li'l Mama)" by Li'l Mama and Avril Lavigne
I don't like Rap, but this is good. for those who don't know, this song is different from "Girlfriend" by only Avril Lavigne. it's mostly Li'l Mama rapping. the only thing from the original song is the chorus and bridge, and those were remixed.

3: "Because of You" by Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson
Reba McEntire redid this song with Kelly Clarkson. I think it's actually better than just Kelly alone.

4: "Thnks fr th Mmrs" by Fall Out Boy
hehehehehe...i just like this song.

5: "Angel's Song" by Ayumi Hamasaki
I love japanese music, and Ayumi Hamasaki is one of the best. this song is awesome...if you like songs you can't understand

1. Silver and Cold - AFI
It's such a beautiful song, and the melancholy piano introduction makes it even more appealing.

2.You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) - Dead or Alive
An unofficial Gay anthem to say the least. That, and it's an awesome dance song. Hi-NRG techno like this is addictive. >_<

3. Helena - My Chemical Romance
A beautiful song, with a beautiful music video. It has a hypnotic meter (I'm a choir nerd, I look at these things in music) and a beautiful chorus.

4. Heart of Glass - Blondie
Nothing can beat Punk-Disco, at all.

5. Love Like Winter - AFI
It has beautiful chord progressions, and the synth adds a nice final touch ^_^

I'm not sure I can narrow it down to 5, but I'll do my best.

So let's see...ok for my first song I'll go with "Run Jane Run" by Krista D.
Number two will be "This Ain't A Scence It's An Arms Race" by Fall Out Boy.
For number three I'm gonna go with "The Rage Beat" by Kinya Kotani.
Number four's going to be "House Of Wolves" by My Chemical Romance
And for number five I'm going to go with "100 Years" by Five For Fighting

And there they are my 5 songs of the moment!

1. "Me & Mr Jones," Amy Winehouse
My obsession with this song can't be accurately expressed. Everytime I hear it, sing it, etc., I find myself WANTING Mr. Jones.

2. "I'll Be Your River," Cyndi Lauper (with Vivian Green)
Just gorgeous...the lyrics, Cyndi's emotive voice, and Vivian's assistance--all stellar. It gives me chills.

3. "Hide and Seek," Imogen Heap
Okay, I heard this song for the first time just a few days ago but apparently it's really popular...but whatever, I LOVE it, all the synthesized vocals and the emotion and everything just shakes me to the core.

4. "My Man," Barbra Streisand
I rewatched "Funny Girl" a few days ago and this song had the same impression on me that it did the first time I saw the movie--I was stunned, moved, invigorated, and fully and completely awed by Barbra's whopper of a voice.

5. "Sober," Kelly Clarkson
It's off her new album, "My December," and it's a slow-burner that builds to a terrific, full-belt finale. If you don't already have her new CD, GO GET IT!!!!! It's soooo good. Her masterpiece, I think.
"Our country is founded on a sham: our forefathers were slave-owning rich white guys who wanted it their way. So when I see the American flag, I go, 'Oh my God, you're insulting me.' That you can have a gay parade on Christopher Street in New York, with naked men and women on a float cheering, 'We're here, we're queer!' -- that's what makes my heart swell. Not the flag, but a gay naked man or woman burning the flag. I get choked up with pride."
- Janeane Garofalo
