Anyone here speak Spanish? A different language? Anyone have any interesting language experiences?
Here's a spanish experience: During a conversation with my teacher (in spanish, of course), she asked me how I was feeling. I wanted to say "Embarrassed" and I figured since some words are cognates (similar in english and spanish), embarazzado sounded good. Well, turns out that embarazzado means pregnant. So, my teacher quaintly asked me "You're pregnant?" We had a good laugh.

Trans: Soulfire it's okay. I've been taking it since pre-school and I've barely got it down. I can't really speak it. I'm able to read, understand, and write it really well though. " Your pregnant?"
You crack me. You know that.
Hope you understood me.-Dee

Oh! Experience wise. Once I was trying to say my favorite animal: the blue whale. Which is "ballena azul" in espanol. But it got mixed in translation and she thought I said my favorite animal was "blue balls".
So embarrassing. Dee

If you think saying you're pregnant in class, I can totally top that: a couple weeks ago my teacher asked me if I would enjoy my summer vacation and I answered "voy a disfrutarme" which may sound like "I will enjoy myself" but really means "I will mastrubate."

I know American Sign Language. And there are many more I want to learn.
I just love languages. I must say it is distubingly easy to accidently say one is pregnant, even in French. Saying "I'm full" is slang for "I'm pregnant." Madame was very careful to point that one out.
We should start a non-English chat room for practice. It's fun.

I'm currently aspiring to be fluent in French. The only time I've ever really used it outside of school was when I bought ice cream in France Just saying...

well... i have enough spanish down to thoroughly confuse or humiliate myself should the situation arise
other than that...
im a french/ east asian studies major- so, im fairly well-versed in french and my japanese is coming along nicely
im adding more during my next term lol... i think i may have a language fetish o_O... makes me feel *unique* LOL
--- hmm..funny stories? well, mygrandfather taught memy french curse words when i was abt 5... that was lovely... brought entertainment for years.. esp. since i thought they were compliments..x_.;...XD;
then there'sthe moment in french class... when you learn that preservative... doesnt mean what you think it does... and that it does not, in fact, make a suitable sandwich topping...

Well
I speak french and I did this radio interview at this little community radio station in the Eastern Townships in Quebec when I was there with my french class. I got demain (tomorrow) and hier (yesterday) mixed up, then realised it and got flustered. It was so embarassing. Derrick!

Actually, that's the same in Indonesian. Also, Indonesian is a fairly new language, so everyone pretty much speaks their local tongue as well. Because of this some words have different meanings in different places. i'm pretty sure that saying the equivalent of 'delicious' in Indo is the same word for 'orgasming' in Bali or somewhere.. i don't actually remember where or what the word is, i just remember my teacher telling me about his daughter saying that once at the dinner table.. ~Megan~

The only foreign language I can speak fluently is English but that isn't very special here But I can speak Dutch and I am even better in Limburg, it's a dialect that's spoken in the South of Holland. Trust me, it's so much better than Dutch, it's kind of a mixture between Dutch, German and French. I can also understand German pretty well but please don't ask me to say anything back In the Netherlands you get Dutch, English, French and German in High school but no Spanish so most of what you're talking about here doesn't make that much sense. so, to get you back.
And now in Limburg, just to prove my point: Vasteloavend is ut beste waat ut um guuft.
What I just said there makes absolutely no sense so don't try to figure out what it says.
