Ok, so just to clear some things up there are rumers flying like crazy on here.
A) Mormons do not believe that Homosexuality is a sin, they believe it is a temptation, and only a sin when you act on it. I am not saying that I agree. And they DO NOT think it is a mental disorder, although my bishop did suggest that I go see a counsolor.

NO WHERE in the Book of Mormon, The Pearl of Great Price, or the Doctrine & Covenants does it say that homosexuality is a sin.

You can be a Mormon and gay, you just can't have relationships without getting excommunicated, so it is really your choice.

Bravo, contrary to what you believe, no religious organization was ever started by "making up whatever they wanted."

The first religions were based around the sun, moon, and stars. Those eventually evolved into having specific names for the "gods" in the sky. From there people chose their favorite aspects, and prayed only to those, eventually, through a long history that I'm not going to explain to someone who wouldn't listen anyway, those seperate religions evolved further, and became what we have today.

Now then..

Technically Debatekid91 is right. Being gay isn't what gets you in trouble in the mormon church. But if they were to excomunicate you for acting on it, then they would have to do the same for drinking coffee, smoking, or any number of "temptations" out there. So there would be very few members of the church left. Which is of course, why they don't do that as often as many believe. To be honest, the mormon church is one of the few that seems to focus on saving everyone rather than telling everyone they are being cast down to damnation for eternity.

I'm not saying it's perfect. Far from it in fact. It has at least as many problems as the other churches of the world, maybe even more. Without the potential of eternal torment in the bowels of hell, there is not as much incentive for the more casual members of the church to avoid harming others.
No those pants don't make your butt look big. It doesn't need any help looking big.

Contrary to what you believe, it's very unlikely the book of Genesis could be correct. Nor the plethora of other lousy, mythological guesses as to how the world was made. The assertations they enforced as truth were based on nothing more than mere lies to comfort people in exchange for power.

Anyway, scientology is a religious organisation, you're telling me you believe aliens put us here? Well, from what I've heard you'd believe in anything that was written in a book a long time ago. The mid-20th century is not long enough I guess.
You should always respect one's religious beliefs, however imaginary friends, delusional behaviour, a belief in a two thousand year old folk-lore should be treated by a professional.

The quote button is there for a reason.

In my post, did I anywhere state that I believed one word of the bible to be true? Or scientology? Or any other religion? No, I didn't. You're doing exactly what you claim religions have done. Making up whatever the hell you want.

I accept the possibility that aliens put us here, or had something to do with our evolution. But I doubt it is the case.

You don't know me, you don't know my beliefs. And I'm glad for that, because I would not want to get to know someone with so little imagination as you have shown. Is it really so hard for you to accept that despite all that science has told you, that there is a possibility of anything supernatural? Probably shouldn't have wasted my time asking, since I am pretty sure I know the answer already.

All right everyone. This isn't a Mormon bashing thread. It's a thread of a Mormon asking for some help. I'm Catholic so I don't share the same exact beliefs as you, but I have absolutely no problem with what you or anyone else believes in.

Anyway, I hope you find what you're looking for. As a Christian myself, I know exactly homosexuality can seem like a really big problem. It's hard to deal with when you grow up in a society that makes it look like a sin. But recently I have started to follow a different belief. To me, I can't imagine how God would condemn us for being gay. Obviously there are some of us who would rather be straight, so how could that better a sin? I KNOW that God loves me no matter what happens. I know that many believe that gay relationships are sinful, but if you think about gay premarital sex and hetero premarital sex, they're both equally sinful if you believe it is a sin... Heh, I don't know if this is helpful. I'd have to think about this a little bit more to be able to give more support. Feel free to ask me for help on anything and good luck with everything =]

Oh and about the faults in religion, every religion has had some bad times in the past. Catholics had problems, Jews are still having it, Muslims are having problems, etc. etc. So don't think that because they were polygamists in the past that they are bad people now...
Avatar Awesome.
