I hate to be the bigot stereotyping and should be the last to say it. But the gay community I believe has a lot of hype on being good-looking. Another plus is I get to live in Los Angeles. YAY!... Another plus for me.
So are we truly as vain as everyone states? And even if we are... where is the bar we cut out the "uglies"? Does personality matter at all? Or do we just say it does out here to save face?

I disagree!! I do hold good looks as a great point to have in a person but the personality is what matters to myself! I mean i couldnt stand going out on a date with someone who is a malignant narciccist!!! Arrogance infuriates me!! As for myself i dont think taking care of ones appearence is a bad thing, we where given are bodies in faith that we would look after them!! I dont think im vain !!! Krishna

There's nothing wrong with alittle vanity. Most poeple are aware that an overly vain person is more interested in themselves, so isn't worth getting to know. Modesty is well sexy. And although personality is the most important thing, if theres no attraction then there's no point. They could be a friend instead.

Everyone is vain, since you are judged by your looks first and foremost. But like almost everyone stated. really personality is what matters. But you can't have someone who looks like the blob from outspace. But I mean, it is those who truly aren't vain at all that make this part of society somewhat balanced. obviously our culture has taught us to look first, then ask questions. And I don't think gay people in general are as vain as people think. I mean there is nothing wrong with a higher standard

There are a lot of people who are vain but i think that gays are the least, i mean the amount of time girls powder their noses and do their mascara in class is unreal lol theres nothig wrong with us looking after ourselves it only takes me 10mins in the shower and 15 mins to blowdry and str8n my hair lol

Contrary to my belief five or some odd years ago, I believe love at first sight.
I used to be so small-minded; thinking love at first sight meant: you see them, and then you instantly fall in love with them.
I now realize what love at first sight it. It's when you finally see somebody, and they are absolutely gorgeous, and that causes you to want to know this person more. This is where the personality part comes in. Looks are NOT everything. If you see this dead gorgeous guy (or girl, for you girls out there), you're naturally attracted to him/her, and you decide to get to know this person, and come to find out, he/she is VERY bitchy, egoistical, small-minded, negative, etc. - then obviously looks don't hold their own weight, and you'll probably walk away.
The physical dies, but a personality forever lives on; a fact being neglected by our society at large.
As for being vain, that depends on each person's own definition of vanity. For me, anybody who thinks he/she is better than anybody else for any reason is vain. Thus, I have a natural problem with most authority figures
I can't stand it when I come across a profiles on various websites, and the most of what I see is people trying to show of their bodies and trying to look sexy. Yes, it can be appealing, but it is much more gratifying to know that someone likes you for you, and not your body. I almost view the body and the heart as two separate entities. It hurts when a person only wants to be with your body, and not you - not your heart. Once that body dies over the years, usually so does the person, along with your hope and love.
Anyway - I'm getting off topic. Yes, personality is a MUST. Looks are icing on the cake ------- Justin C

I am vain...my law teacher was very suprised too look up in a lesson to find me borrowing a mirror off a friend to top up my eyeliner...looks in other people arent as important to me as how I look...i've had not amazingly good looking boyfriends...but if i ever thought i started looking ugly i might lose my mind...i fear growing old soooo much...I do notice myself judging other people on their looks sometimes...just like a passing "oh my fugly" thought then...oh my god why do i think these things...I think everybody is vain and everybody judges everybody else on their looks even if they dont realise their doing it its part of the psychology of reproduction...even though a lot of gay people will never produce children in the traditional way...we're still human and still have the same origins...soo people always look at looks first its the first indication of a good gene pool so to speak.
