Face it all here who talk about grandchildren and such: Our society is filled with homo-phobic bitches, which basically mean that if you don't find someone willing to be a surrogate for you you will probably never get a kid.

I don't know if I speak for everybody in this thread (I hope I might be) but when I talk about "grandchildren", I'm not using it to mean my biological descendants only - it's just a word to mean "the future generation".
Whether or not we are screwing up the planet, to say we should just because we won't have kids is very nasty, and selfish. I'll tell you what Jesus would NOT do - Jesus would not wreck a guy's party.

Well some times one has to live life for oneself. Plus the fact that I would hate to have them existing, just look at how little actual progress humanity has made for the past 5 generations, we're mentally where we were 200 years ago. That means they'll probably be retarded too.

Well, I certainly can't speak for your grandchildren, but for the most part, each successive generation for the past few centuries has been steadily more and more socially progressive. I'm not sure I know exactly what you mean -- but 'mentally,' and I would add culturally, we have made tremendous strides forward in social progress. If you think we're in the same spot now as we were 200 years ago, try traveling back to 1807 and see if you can find a gay bar anywhere .

Do you truly believe we've not made any progress in the last 200 years? Do you call:
The abolition of slavery The spread of the railways The discovery of the molecular content of gases The invention of the stethoscope The invention of photography The invention of the typewriter The discovery of the first enzyme, and the beginning of biochemistry The invention of the telegraph The Industrial Revolution The discovery of the laws of electromagnetism The invention of the telephone The first electric grid Women (and many more men) earning the right to vote The discovery of the theory of relativity The discovery of quantum theory The invention of television The rise of antibiotics The rise of vaccination The advanced treatment of cancers The invention of the aeroplane Mass production of cars The photoelectric effect explained Invention of stainless steel The discovery of continental drift The theory of evolution The advancement of sound recording technology The discovery of insulin The discovery of penicillin The discovery of nuclear fission The discovery of safer methods of blood transfusion The invention of computers The discovery of the structure of DNA The first organ transplants Man walking on the moon The rise of gay rights The creation of fibre optics The invention of mobile phones The creation of the Internet The cloning of animals The use of probes to investigate other planets
.... There's so much I've missed here, it's insane. It doesn't even mention any of the cultural advancements - the music, the art, the literature - created in the last 200 years.
No actual progress in the last 200 years? I'll tell you what Jesus would NOT do - Jesus would not wreck a guy's party.

I thought more about their mental state actually, like in what they believed. If we really had progressed so many fewer would have actually had a religion, since it wasn't needed anymore.(just an example)

Well, consdiering there are so many more atheists now than back then, and you're less likely to be lynched for it... I'll tell you what Jesus would NOT do - Jesus would not wreck a guy's party.

I doubt you can find evidence of a gay bar 3000 years ago. If a, b are positive integers such that (ab+1)|(a^2+b^2), prove that (a^2+b^2)/(ab+1) is a perfect square.

I will also add that this thread is rapidly degenerating and becoming off topic. I hope that we can either focus ourselves back on it or just continue this thread elsewhere as a "human progress" thread or something. If a, b are positive integers such that (ab+1)|(a^2+b^2), prove that (a^2+b^2)/(ab+1) is a perfect square.

Back on topic-
Climate change appears to be happening. The thing that concerns me about the whole thing is the willingness of people to regress and risk all the progress humanity has made over the last couple hundred years, rather than progressing further.
No-one will benefit if we recklessly cut carbon emissions by 60% - we'll end up worse than a current third-world country. Much better would be to advance our technologies so we don't emit greenhouse gases.
Wind-farms and solar panels are useless at the moment. We need to maintain our standards of life, and save ourselves and help the environment at the same time. To destroy humanity for the sake of reducing emissions is idiotic. I'll tell you what Jesus would NOT do - Jesus would not wreck a guy's party.
