I think the war is immoral and wrong, and that's based on a personal conviction. On top of that, President Bush defied the United Nations to invade and occupy Iraq, which makes this an illegal war. And then he savaged international peacekeeping laws outlined in the Geneva Convention. He's a war criminal, to put it simply. He and Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld should be tried before the world court for crimes against humanity. And then thrown behind bars.
As for immigration, I think anyone should be allowed to live here. We are, after all, a country of immigrants. And in case anyone has forgotten, our ancestors were the original illegal immigrants--they ran the Native Americans off and took over this land. But no one ever mentions that when engaged in heated political repartee. "Our country is founded on a sham: our forefathers were slave-owning rich white guys who wanted it their way. So when I see the American flag, I go, 'Oh my God, you're insulting me.' That you can have a gay parade on Christopher Street in New York, with naked men and women on a float cheering, 'We're here, we're queer!' -- that's what makes my heart swell. Not the flag, but a gay naked man or woman burning the flag. I get choked up with pride." - Janeane Garofalo

The reason for America's LARGE amount of people is, kinda disgustingly, religion. They came from areas where their religious beliefs weren't common, and went to the US to be "free"... Like the state Pennsylvania which is named after the founder of the Quakers I believe....

My first thought is Thank God. My second is About Effing Time.
Which brings me to a question: now that something is (finally) being done about the genocide in Darfur, what should matter more? That the United Nations accepted the resolution for deployment of the largest peacekeeping force in its history? Should it be patted on the back for this? Or should it be rebuked and shamed for not acting decisively for near five years and allowing a quarter of a million people (at least) to be slaughtered?

I think they should be applauded for sending the people there. Better late than never. Plus you get nowhere but down from negative things...

In inmigration issues i think the american policies are wrong. Latinos and mexicans are the pilars of the american economy, and yet they dare considering us a threat!!. The simple idea of spending millions of dollars in a frontier wall is insane and it is an insult to mexico and to south america. This happens in spain as well, they look at ecuadorians like the cheap laborers who don´t belong in the place and treat them like crap...even in the so called "democracy" discrimination has it´s place. Ohh yeah and i hate bush!!! lol.

Illegal immigrants ARE helping the economy, but not themselves for the most part. The only people making money off of their hard work are the rich owners of some various companies and political groups, not the immigrants themselves. They're stuck in poverty wherever they go, because they have no education, can't speak English (a lot of the illegal immigrants probably want to speak English, but it must be hard for them learning a new language in such a hostile place).
It's a real sad situation.

Indeed i totally agree with u, the laboral conditions offered to illegal inmigransts are horrible, with extremely low salaries and exploitation. But the government is sometimes not doing them a a favor when deporting them to their countries of origin, where the salaries are even lower or jobs are insufficient to cover all the demand of the laboral market; and u also have to consider that most of the people whe emigrate are very likely to have a high number of kids due to poor levels of education which are the reason of them not being able to obtain a well paid job. I think emigrating from one´s country is not the solution, specially cause it shatters the core of families, but in return, a higher standard of living for the kids seems like reason enough to venture in a foreign country, even if this means degradation and infrahuman treatment from the receiving country. The hiring of illegals does give extra income to the hiring part, but that doesnt matter to illegals who are even willing to jeopardize their own live in the search of the "american dream"...

APEC is wrong. They should just go into the Kyoto agreement better. What APEC are trying to do will cause more damage than good.

On the US elections, I am probably going to be the loner here but i say go Mitt Romney. I could not take another Clinton presidency. I'm odd because I am extremely conservative except on one issue, gay rights.

I'm with you. I don't think that there is one good reason to be against gay marriage. I'm rooting for Romney.

The Kyoto protocol that no one is following? Or the one that even if it was followed, wouldn't stop global warming? Or the one that China didn't sign, even though they will soon be the foremost cause of "global warming"?
