i dunno what happenned but it seems that we have lost close to 150 comments posted in february...actually we have lost almost all...too bad...there was a lot to answer,,,so, i guess the best thing to do is to make a resumé of what we had previously discussed and keep going...be my guest...
this thread is about commenting "talk of the day" events no matter if they are local to one country or region or has international consequences. just as an example, in the last thread concerning current events we discussed those different topics:
us occupation in iraq
iran's nuclear program
immigration and adaptation to local culture
reorganisation of United Nations
american elections
the bombing of dresden
forgotten human tragedy: sudan, ethiopia, angola cabinda, birmany, etc...
korean deal for stepping out from nuclear weaponwery
some others ...

Ooh. This is a tough one. The thing about immigrant integration is that once you come over to America, people expect you to know how to act within how we act as Americans. Just in the same way if I went over to one of the Asian countries, and walked into someone's house, I would be expected to know I'm suppose to remove my shoes. Failure to remove them could be considered a dishonor. However, this country is called the "melting pot" for a reason. We have many different cultures, many different people, and many different ideas of how Americans should be/act. I think for the most part people are open to the idea of accepting other cultures. Obviously, regardless of how some people choose to act, this was how our country was founded. I think the idea of someone coming over, "imposing" (I use that loosely) their culture, and then using the system to win... Ha. Fuck. This is America. We have a hell of a lot more rights and I think, yes. They're Americans once they get that citizenship, so they're entitled to the same rights that I am. I welcome the idea of new cultures. We should be fully supportive to the way they live and things they're use to.

i have 2 questions about the melting pot :
lets say two neighbors become american citizen. one jewish and the second islamic, both are very religious and they follow their own cult in every aspect. both guys teach at the same public school. on a jewish holiday for one and on an islamic holiday for the second, both ungreet in usa, they abstain from coming to school forcing christian kids to lose 2 days unschedule in the school year agenda...
first question : would you allow the teachers to abstain from working for religious faith ?
second question: does melting pot mean melting personal beliefs and ways of doing into one big group belief and into one big group ways of doing ?
...of course within the law...

Immigration is more of a local issue
I'm subscribed to Time and Newsweek and I read international news everyday...local news is kind of boring, especially immigration...it is so over-discussed...

i understand for you immigration can be boring cz in usa immigration is not an issue....along with what you say. however in canada its a new issue and people coming here are not well informed...i dont think there is a melting pot in canada..certainly not in quebec.
but you dont have to comment on immigration. we can discuss any other topics...the idea of this forum to discuss any current events topics...best if there are many.....youre reading international news so there must be topics you discuss with people around you...you wanna share ?

Certainly! this is a very interesting topic free, thanks for creating it
Political Issue #1 - IRAN Iran's mullah government is developing nuclear materials and there is no doubt about it. Their president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has made very confrontational statements, threatening Israel. Russia is against any real action against them because they have multi-billion dollar investments in Iran's energy (Russia is building many nuclear power plants in Iran) and China has made a lot of deals with Iran to drill into Iran's cast reserves. The U.S. and her allies are fervently searching down for diplomatic solutions but they continue to fail miserably.
Recently, the US has moved in several aircraft carriers into the region. A military show down is imminent if diplomatic solutions don't work. Iran's stubborn radical leadership shows no signs in quitting. A war with Iran would be horrible. Iran has thousands of ballistic missiles, capable of destroying a large portion of the middle east's oil facilities and killing tens of thousands of US soldiers.
My opinion is force. Not a standard military invasion though. I believe that the U.S. should sponsor the MKO and other rebel anti-Iranian Government revolutionaries in Iran, giving them money, weapons, and open support to "free Iran". Then the U.S. should support a few Iranian generals (bribe them, whatever it takes) and oust the current radicals in Iran. It would work. Most of Iran doesn't support them anyways.
Issue #2 - Hugo Chavez and his Anti-West homies Hugo Chavez, the radical socialist president of Venezuela, has a hardliner anti-West stance. He does not like the US. His famous quotes include "Go back home, gringos!" (referring to Bush's white staff members) and "The devil came here yesterday, (referring to George Bush) and it smelled of sulfur," . American Christian TV broadcaster, Pat Robertson, made Chavez famous when he publicly discussed a possible CIA assassination of Chavez.
I think the US is currently doing a fine job on this, Chavez is regarded as an idiot in the international community, and he is increasingly worried about his own security.
Issue #3 - Dependence on Oil Of all modern problems, this is one that the average person feels most strongly about, and the issue that most people just don't understand.
Most people think we can just switch over to a different form of energy, and this is completely untrue, for America anyways. The US Dollar, opposed to common belief, is NOT backed by gold. It is backed by oil and oil trading. If we switched to hydrogen or something else, the dollar would lose a lot of it's power, that is why the U.S. is not switching to alternative energies and is still pushing big SUV's around.
That is the real reason why we invaded Iraq, and why we will invade Iran. No one really noticed in 2001 when Saddam Hussein switched over to the Euro, but he had signed his death warrant (literally). The Bush Administration wanted to make an example of Iraq to other Middle Eastern and OPEC countries about switching to the Euro in oil trading. Recently, Iran has switched over to the euro in oil trading. I believe that the Bush administration is going to make a reason to invade Iran, and why he is not dealing with Iran to stop it's nuclear program to his full abilities.

It's not at all a local issue, this coming from someone who reads only interantional news. Its a hugely international issue about the rights of humans versus the rights of country, and it pretty mush boils down to western society beginning to pay the price for exploiting the third world for hundreds of years and then getting up and leaving them with out ever looking back. If you're not living on the edge, your taking up too much space.

its getting here talk of the day. in usa they have the melting pot meaning when someone immigrates to us it is to becaome american because otherwise they wouldnt go. where i live in quebec, it is a big problem because when they come here they are not well informed or worst they are wrongly inform of what going on here. im believe in the independence of quebec but since my country is yet to be born, i dont have a country so i feel my country is the planet. i believe people migrating must know and be willing to adapt to new society and the society must help and welcome the newcomers willing to be part of them..
chemflare was not saying but border patrols at the frontier with mexico are shooting illegal immigrants...ive heard yest on CNN the president of bank of america saying they will maintain they policy to open credit cards to illegal immigrant cz otherwise, it would peovoque bankrupcy of america !!!!....boring you said chem

First of all I introduce myself, call me G or Flame.
I would like to give my opinion about 1 issue.
Now if we put money and life in a balance, I would say that most of the people go Thru all their life wasting THEIR LIFE for money, desire for money and big power behind, Now Chemical_Flare mention that a lot of people doesn’t understand that changing the Consummations of oil at their maximum, so OK U.S. is going to loose a lot of $#&$ Money, so we can all still live peacefully in a perfect life, so what with the world?, Do you really think Oil is going to last forever?, I think that u think about yourself and The present we’re living, what about the future?, have you seen AN INCONVINIENT TRUTH? Do you make a little research about how scientists say every day that the world is not getting Any good?, Global warming is not only more heat to our heads, do you know that beaches and earth Around the world has been covered by water cause more than 65% of glaciers has melted?, Where that come from?, most of all the burning of all that have to be with Oil, and materials That contaminate this world, they destroy the earth shield, then all the heat that goes inside this world From the sun itself come in heavy radiation and with the smoke and contamination clouds just can’t leave so stays in here, that’s why in deserts in day there is a big heat, but in night can even snow, cause all the heat leave the earth again. Personally and I’m not going to lie, I used to smoke, man I felt that I was dying and not only that, a cigarette have more than 100 chemicals and the tobacco is just What remains of real tobacco, you bet for the present and the big pleasure, but if we keep On consuming all the derivates of OIL, doing things that will endanger all NATURE, we will perish, maybe not you, maybe you going to live Happily for another 5 years and will be able to see a big hole in earth before you burn yourself, But I guess you already know that, I bet you already know how many years take several products To come back to their natural state, of course if they can, cause most are chemicals that in the End will only hurt world soil, so yes, let’s keep on making Big SUV’s with V8’s that will expend 5 gallons in one single day and keep on drilling the world so we can suck all his blood; but another Thing, if you didn’t know, most of the problems that are happening, I remind Hurricane Wilma, I Remind the big tsunami that killed hundred thousand of people, all of that is not just because is A WILL from a GOD, is a WILL from MAN, and his desire for power and expansion, so be it, Let’s push the pedal to the metal and finish this HOME WORLD we live in.
Oh yeah another thing, looks like we FEEL with enough POWER to INVADE other COUNTRYS and steal THEIR MINERALS so we can keep on living large uh?
‘’Recently, Iran has switched over to the euro in oil trading. I believe that the Bush administration is going to make a reason to invade Iran, and why he is not dealing with Iran to stop it's nuclear program to his full abilities’’
I could understand about the dangerous nuclear program, but like everything else, all just An excuse with second intentions, I mean u think U.S. government is not going to keep On with the nuclear program but for U.S. and not for middle east?, I mean is too much of A big chance to get more nuclear weaponry and get rock and loaded to be the meanest With the most nuclear weapons, of course is a big chance to get WHAT THEY HAVE, Normally thru history, man always deny and deceived when men wanted something out Of ENVY of what his neighbors had, before there were big lands, the Crown, Gold, Conquer, now we have nuclear Weaponry, Viral Weaponry, Data Thieves, even our identities are sometimes in danger With so many corrupt people out there, so many has been trained and are following Orders (talking generally no just U.S., cause the other power nations do same things, and of course This is an open site to people all over the world), but hell, there you go, let’s rock, let’s see if we let them create a future in where we are the followers, and slaves of day-to-day new brainwash, or create our own future, without wars, without Nuclear Waste, Without Power Corruption, let’s see what is going to happen. ~~G~~
