oddly enough this guy met( irish slang for snog/make out) a guy the week before so could have been just trying to sound straight. He moved school Hahaha how embarrassing for him
He totally deserved that!

[b]Well scrumper, what you say is a very important question that is a difficult one to answer. The thing about the teaching of homosexuality in school is that certain members of the community would start an uproar, and gain support by taking on other propogandas to further their cause. It is difficult being one of a few gay/lesbian students in school, but it only better prepares you for the challenges that will more than likely await you enter the work force. You cannot expect people to accept what they dont know, and what they dont know, they fear. You will have to be the ony to educate others about homosexuality, and in the end it may be better that it is done that way, for you might obtain new friends, knowledge about yourself and others, and a better understanding of diversity. My school tends to teach that if one is gay, it means one is homosexual, and that means you like people of the same sex. Co-incidentally, I fell asleep in that Year 10 Health class two years ago. That is, in all honesty, the entirety of the material that the PE teachers are willing to dictate to students, despite the fact that the curriculum demands more.
To be honest, I don't particularly care about how much they teach, seeing as it has no real use; you must have been hiding under one extremely large rock if you don't know what the words gay and homosexual mean. I'd be willing to go all the way to the Board of Studies and complain, but I can't be bothered. That, and I have no real power in the scheme of things.
My school is crap. You should all stay away from it. Thank God I'm graduating in October ...

For sure they dont give enough thought into homosexuality in schools. most of the time they jump straight to conclusion. if they get to to know the real people they should know there is more to them than just there orientation. Theres no room for error anymore, we are all humn, and how we live should be based off of personal choice. and the hardest times are in school.

At the beginning of the year, we had a campaign to raise public awareness toward AIDS. I was happy to notice that they mentioned several times the case of gays or lesbians. In France, homosexuality is rather good accepted at the "Lycées" (equivalent of American 10th, 11th & 12th grades) because the students are older and more open minded, but in the previous grades, it's rather ehhhm risky to talk about his homosexuality with the others. I'm disappointed to remark that it's not different elsewhere...

this is such a good subject to tlk bout. Especially for those in a catholic school, because we are continually nailed with the fact that we are going to go to hell for what are doing. but to have as apart of the curriculum is another thing, i would definately approve only if it was a small section because drawing pointless attention and ridicule for something like that i feel is unneccesary.

Very interestingly, I was in touch with a lot of catholic high school kids when I was involved in networking, and I found that attitudes differed greatly between teachers and students on the issue.
I think that by our teenage years, most of us have developed the capabilities to think for ourselves already, and won't have to blindly follow the rest of the institutions... If a, b are positive integers such that (ab+1)|(a^2+b^2), prove that (a^2+b^2)/(ab+1) is a perfect square.

I'm afraid that if they taught about homosexuality, that it would cause a lot of problems and such just as intelligent design being taught in school has brought a lot of disdain to Intelligent Design, I fear it would have the same negative effect on how people view homosexuality...the average person would feel that ideals were being imposed on their kids...etc.
I think its fine the way it is personally...
I see where you are coming from, but have you ever thought about homosexual people, we do go to skool's, skool's built around the idea that being straight is the normal, I see it like this they dont teach us about homosexuality because of parents, teachers, guidlines, and homophobes, etc. Could you imaging the outbreak of angry parents, teachers, boared members, religous people, and maybe students if the skool boards decided to teach about homosexuality. The thing I dont understand is, yes belive this or not homosexuals do go to skool, so have they ever stoped to think about us and how they force Heterosexuality on us, im gay not straight so why should I have to sit there and listen to them go on about how straight is ok and being gay is not and being straight is normal and if your gay god will hate you blah blah. I think the goverment should have a entire skool district for gays.
( I had a few drinks today because my friend is visiting from B.C. so yea if I didn't make sense let me know and I'll come back and try and make it more understandable )
Slightly off topic, but from what I remember/know, we have a school in Toronto dedicated to the LGBT community. I might be wrong, so I will check... Of course it's not an entire board, but it's an interesting idea.

Yea... I think they should teach about Being gay and the aspects of being gay, Because some people really dont understand what being gay is all about. People think its just 'bumsex!' but it is'nt. another thing si that people think its a religion? It aint its just the way we are and no--one can change it! So they should tell us about it, Even the dangers etc... but at least it would give people more of an understanding!Ben

NYC has a school like that (Called Harvey Milk School).
I don't necessarily believe that all schools teach that being straight is normal. However, it is true that there are more straight people than gay people (I think few will doubt this claim) - and that education may inevitably tailored to these people's needs more so than others.
That much said, diversity education is quite needed If a, b are positive integers such that (ab+1)|(a^2+b^2), prove that (a^2+b^2)/(ab+1) is a perfect square.

The only sort of lessons we had about homosexuality at school were in RE lessons and even then it only focused on what the bible taught (basically every gay should be rounded up and burned). The lesson was fraught with snickering and cries of laughter as they all laughed at an old gay couple. By this time, I knew I was gay and didn't find it funny.
I would love to see a portion of sex education to focus of being gay. Children need to be taught that being gay is nothing to ashamed about. That it is something to be celebrated. I'm not talking about in depth lessons on how to have gay sex- but it needs to be shown there is more to gay life than simply sex.
They teach about Muslims, about other cultures, about how past civilisations used to live (and convientely skip over the fact that most ancient civilisations were inheriently bisexual)- so why can't they talk about a relavent and now minority?
