how does a relationship start?
Date: 2006/09/09 19:16 By: modelbehavior Status:

I have never dated before (not evena girl) and when I turn 18 in 6 months I would like to start dating guys. Here is my question, how does a relationship start? I mean, i know it sounds kinda dumb (well, it is dumb!), but how do a series of dates turn into a realtionship? I mean, I know that people date, but not every date turns in to a serious realtionship. But, if you have been dating for a while, how do you take the next step and becomes boyfriends? I know it sounds dumb, but I have no idea about dating whatsoever. I guess what I am trying to say is how do you go abut starting a relationship?

Please, humor my stupidity...

I've never had a boyfriend either. Then again I'm young - 14. Well, if it's dating you want I recommend finding a gay bar. There is probably one in your town or a nearby one. Then again, that's not really a place for long relationships. All you really need is to meet someone you like and who likes you and take them somewhere nice. The cinema/theatre is a good one. Or a peaceful area outside or anywhere you like really. Keep going places with him. Eventually ask him out. Does this help. I wouldn't really know how it does because I never have myself. Good luck. Well, in my eyes a realtionship starts when you start to commit yourself to one person, more so than others. As such a relationship----(be it romatic, just friends, enemies) will sart whenever you start to give more of your self to one person. So I would say that a relationship will start between you and someone else, whenever you are comfortable enough with them. Just think of how you felt about your friends when you first met them, and how you feel now.....
Dunno if I made any sence. lol.
Boyz have more fun.... when they are with other boyz

my advice is to go to one of the local gay men clubs. if you look on the internet you will find one near you.lots of people go there to start relationships.(clothes are optional, but not always perferred)

First off....its NOT a dumb question.....and if youve never dated...its a realy good question! Like many topics...i have an oppinion.
First off.....I think if your gay, and not out....your realy limited on how you can go about it. Ive only dated 2 guys.....the first one is when i was still in the closet, and to be totaly honest i kinda lucked out on that one...cuz the dude ended up comming out to me....then later i came out to him, and a few weeks later we where dating.
My bf i have now (most awesome person in the world i might add) I met at the GSA meeting. Before we started dating we where like friends for like maybe 4 months...then he asked me out. So i dont know that that realy helped you cuz i kinda got lucky both times because basicaly both guys ive gone out with asked me....im kinda shy about that stuff so thats probly a good thing.
But i do know this....its guna be realy hard for you if you dont place yourself with other gay people.
Good luck!......Jordan

I have a problem with my Boyfriend. It's sort of a long distance relationship over the computer. He's never online since he "liked" me but I just need help to find out maybe why he's never online. Do u long distance relationships work out? I don't know what to do about that... Plz help me!

And my advice for you modelbehavior is that to ask him out often get to know him and tell him about urself. Make good use of the time when ur both alone together, go to romantic places: Theaters, Parks, and Beaches...

Hope that helps, Melvin

Well, in my case, there wasn't really a sudden transaction from friends to lovers.

When I came out, my friend told me that she had another gay friend, and introduced me to him. I knew who he was- although we'd never talked- I remember seeing him go to her house a few times (and I really fancied him then).

Anyway we were talking for a few month and went out a few times with the girl that introduced us (bowling etc.) and then somewhere along the line we started kissing and were in a proper relationship.

I don't think there needs to always be a defining moment when someone asked someone else out. My past few relationships never had that. We just eventually went backwards and said, "hey, let's set a date for our anniversary."

It works out ok

And LDRs can work, but with a lot of commitment and stability. It probably works out a little better when both parties are older, because they then have the liberty to travel more and see each other. I've seen many LDRs work out

My relationship started as a LDR for a good year or so, but we were also friends for years before that.

I will say that LDRs take a different set of requirements and skill sets to deal with. Trust and a lot of resisting real life temptations come into play.....
If a, b are positive integers such that (ab+1)|(a^2+b^2), prove that (a^2+b^2)/(ab+1) is a perfect square.

I remember that moment being in a gay bar, one saturday afternoon holding hands and saying to each other: I love you. and then we sort of became proper boyfriends. and this was like 3 months of dating.

it's something both people know it's the next step forward i guess.

In my opinion, I'd say don't look for love, just be yourself. Eventually, you'll meet someone you'll just click with, someone who you feel differently about than all your other friends. Honesty is the key.

I too am slightly confused about dating. OK, i meet-up with gay friends and stuff, but how does one know if its a date or not. Does either of the party actually say: 'lets go on a date?' lol.

Like at the moment, i've met this guy a few times (first to go to a youth group and to the cinema the second time) but how do I know whether he thinks its a 'date' or that we're just going 'as friends' to just chill-out?

well, to start a relationship with a guy, make sure you know what the guys sexuality is.

otherwise it could be a lil tricky lol

well, i met up with a bi guy after we'd become really close friends, almost best friends

we met up a few times and each time we did we became more confident with each other in the sense that we talked more, (cos we became close friends online) we spent more time on our own together and eventually our feelings for each other just kinda came out. something as little as a hug can let you know how the other person feels.

try some of these things out, but dont try anything too soon, become really good friends first, i hope any of this rant helps you hehe

I think it happens gradually, mine didn't, but for others it might date with a few dates, sometimes months, and you just shift subconsciously from dating to relationship.

Boy likes boy

Boy asks boy out on date

The two go on second date
OR
Start hanging out a lot more

Boy asks boy to be bf's

Simple, no?

Dating is a breeze! Just be practical! Remeber, be yourself. You hear it a thousand times, but when you first meet someone, their going to expect you to be whomever you were that first time.

1. Ask the person to dinner. Pick a public place, not too noisy. No gay scenes. This will help BREAK some tension by taking away the 1 on 1 factor which is too personal. You'll be 1 on 1 but with many around you, limiting the feeling of awkwardness. Just have casual chat over dinner. DO NOT PLAN the conversation, that's overthinking. No fast food, either. You don't want to cover the entire bill, nor let him. Don't rush things. Your barely associated at this point! Call it a night, leave. Tell him you had a good time (if you did), and if not, be honest.

2. Next pick a nature oriented place, this is more personal but not too much heat, anything outdoorsy. More public places or events work too. NO MOVIES/CINEMA yet, sure, great place... for slutty people. EVERYONE knows the intent behind the movies. So just drop it.

3. Third times the charm, now, go more personal, movies... let what happens happen. It'll be mutual if you made it to the third date. If the night goes well, ask him out after the movie. Making out is def. cool, holding etc. DO NOT let it go beyond. No overnight visit, he doesnt get to come back to your house yet.

4th time -- All you. All you.

Remember. Gay guys tend to be touchy and you have to express your still interested between dates. Flirt, text, email, IM, phone, whatever works for you.

Hope that helps!
