Suggestion: conversation-style messages

How about proper cascading conversation-style messages, like basic email has had forever? An option for that would be lovely. Any way to see the flow of the conversation so far without having to go back and open all the previous messages (both from inbox and sent) in tabs...that would be great. Messages are, after all, kind of the core of the site's function, and they seem fairly crippled right now.
It would also be great if you could search by location as well as by state in the USA, with Myspace's zip code feature being the model. I know that's more work--a whole new element to the profile, in particular--but it would facilitate connections between users.
