I just typed my user name into google and discovered that it brought up this profile plus other ones on different websites. I didn't realise when I made this account a long time ago that this would happen. Is there any way of stopping this or some way of changing my user name so to something different that is less obviously mine.

Unfortuntly there isn't. The only thing you can do is unsubscribe from the sight by contacting info@thegyc.com then signing up with a new account.
