Evolution

Hey, i was reading in New Scientist that even in the UK, less than half the population accepts evolution. So i was wondering, how many of you are there who believe that life formed on this planet in other ways, and why, considering the overwhelming evidence confirming it as fact.

( excluding those who believe in a religion simply because it makes your life more enjoyable, i have no quarrel with that )

Evolution in a sense does exist. I might not believe everything has evolved from bacteria, even though we are full of bacteria, but I have captured a sense of evolution occurring.

We have a tailbone, but we don't have a tail. Snakes have hip bones, but don't have hips. Dolphins have finger bones but don't have fingers. It makes sense that some common ancestors must have passed their genes on and these things stayed in place. Think so?

I do believe in evolution... not just in living things, but on how the planets formed, and the solar system.. and so on... I dont believe in any religion simply cause i cant find sence in them... i think they are like a fairy tail trying to answer questions that we dont have answers to, like how did the universe formed. (no offense intended, just stating my point)

Less than half the population might not accept evolution, but it doesn't necessarily make the rest of the population believe in religious creation stories. I would think a large lot of people would tick the 'undecided' box. I would like to see the amount of people that tag themselves as believing in a religious creation story from that survey.
You should always respect one's religious beliefs, however imaginary friends, delusional behaviour, a belief in a two thousand year old folk-lore should be treated by a professional.

There are types of evolution that I do believe in. Such as that of Darwin's study of adaptation to the environment. Like his study with the birds and those with longer beaks survived because they were able to reach into the plants for the worms, those who had short beaks died off. So I do believe things adapt to their environment by some evolution. Do I believe in Darwin's theory of human evolution? No I do not.

What is the difference between Darwin's theory of how species change differ from how we humans originated?

Do you know that we are more then 97% similar genetically to chimps? In fact, we humans and bananas are 50% genetically the SAME. We share many complex genetic codes, such as ubiquitin, which are more then 97% similar between us and YEAST, which separated some 1 billion+ years ago.

Evolution, while not a fact, has absolutely no scientific opposition. There is nothing that does not support it.

And so you all know, Darwin did not invent the theory of evolution. The theory of evolution has been around for centuries...do you think Darwin was the first person to notice the similarity between us and other primates? Darwin is famous for proposing the theory of natural selection, which is more or less a vehicle by which evolution takes place. Natural selection explains how evolution happens.

I first of all I highly respect your last statements. “Darwin did not invent the theory of evolution.” It’s out of topic but yes Darwin didn’t invent it, it’s just common knowledge like how only commoners didn’t know the world was round in the fifteenth century. Kudos.

Back to topic. I don’t agree that we have a common ancestor. I am not here to shove my personal belief down your throat or anything. I do believe that since the time God put us on this earth we have adapted to our different environments. That is why some people are shorter, why skin colors are different, and so on. I don’t believe God put us on earth as bacteria though. Evolution does have opposition, God--creator of all, it isn’t scientific but it is faith. Again, this is my personal belief. I don’t mean to offend anyone.

Faith in what? Who says that God didn't create us as bacteria?

Is this the same book which, if taken literally, means the earth must be less then 7,000 years old?
