Mmm, I don't fancy being the one to ask Georgy Bush to give third world counties permission to facilitate nuclear material. I have a feeling he'd have his guards choke the living daylights out of me.

Yeah, clean energy is at this point in time insufficient. If it gets enough funding, though, who knows. The other, crappier, alternatives the governments seem hell bent on investing in doesn't seem to be doing that much good.

Maybe if Mars gets warm enough we can go there?

Just throwing this out there, but i read this in an article, but apparently, if everyone in the world, or mostly everyone painted their roofs white, we would have the weather we had 100 years ago lol. is that even possible? i mean, i get the idea, but could that even work? sorry if someone already said this. and i'm just throwing it out there.

but on my opinion on global warming, i believe we should try to save as much energy. but i don't think we should worry too much. i mean, i don't think we're totally screwed, just leave it for the next generation or whatever. ahaha.

I agree. C'mon people - stop using "knowledge" to win an argument. It's unfair. I mean, you can prove anything with facts, can't you?

Hehe, good point.

Yes, the planet heats up naturally, and yes, carbon dioxide increases that rate, but to change it would require a truly worldwide effort that people refuse to join. It's great how some care enough to let us know exactly what's going on and others do their part to help, but we have to stop figuring out what's wrong or how to fix it (we already know) and just do it!

Carbon-based fuels are the cheapest ways for developing countries to advance, and in the more westernized world a lot of people are too happy driving Hummers and leaving their lights on all day long to help the concerned people of the world change it.

Even if we are not causing global warming we should still change. Fossil feuls are going to run out someday and we are going to screwed if we are not prepared.

And yes the planet has cooled and heated on its own but the current temperature rise has never been seen before.

We should change regardless.

Really, the planet's never seen temperatures such as now? I doubt that very much.

As for the sensationalistically 'alarming' predictions... well... does anyone remember the y2k bug?

It not the actual temperatures but the rate or way they are changing or something. I'm taking it with a pinch of salt myself but said person was going to Oxford so when they tell you something I just tend to nod...

actually, not responding to climate change would have a far more profound effect.
and according to some economists responding to climate change would not not effect too disasterously the gdp.

i think the planet is heating up due to standard meteorological cycles, but that our treatment of the planet is simply not helping.

cant really add much to this discussion as it is too sciency

Earth Hour started in Sydney, Australia. You turn off your lights from 8-9 p.m. ONE HOUR. That's it. One person cannot make a difference, but millions can.

Unplug your microwave, toasters, and cell phone chargers. Not only are you gonna save your parents money, but you'll be helping the earth too.

I take what is said by the media with a pinch of salt, quite frankly were not all going to drown in the next 10-20 years. Nonetheless Global Warming is a serious problem, and for all those who are telling me that its a natural process, your half-right. As of course the planet's tempreture does naturally change, the planet as been hotter than this before, even in the past meillenia.

However that does not mean that humans aren't causing a dangerous amount of damage to the planet's climate. We know for certain that carbon dioxide in our atmosphere causes a greenhouse effect, and though the amount of CO2 produced by man is a fraction of what is produced naturally, that small fraction (as well as deforestation etc.) unbalances the fragile equilibreum of CO2 production and absorbtion on our planet and it's atmosphere, causing our planets climate to change.

This change is small, at the current rate the planet's tempreture will only raise a few degrees this century. But this slight, unnatural tempreture change reeks havoic on Earths ocean currents and atmospheric circulation, which are both rather fragile.

For example the unnatural rise in the ocean tempreture of the gulf of mexico and the increase in evaporarion this caused is thought to have cause hurricanes such as Katrina to increase in power, leading to tragic consquences. Also the rise in ocean tempretures is destroying an already overfishing weakened marine ecosystem, as the tempreture change disrupts the growth of corals, microscopic organisims etc and this disruption moves up the food chain putting animals such as the whale at extreme risk.

people say it is just a cycle but the graph on an ionconvenient truth had the rest of it cycling but at a really loiw level and then suddenly shoot up in like the last 1/100 of the graph. It's not a cycle and it is happening and we need to do much more to stop it. Politicians like Bush who wiont see anything but short term economy problems are ignoring the fact thatthe world economy will collapse if we have to pay for the problems glob. warming creates. The new Kyoto treaty thing needs to be much stronger but Bush wont commit to it. Or something. I dunno.
