I am fairly new to the gay community. Anywho, I am not one to be obsessed with sex. Once I heard that if you heard someone say "The gay community is obsessed with sex", then you could say "That's an overstatement, the human race is obsessed with sex".
I debate this topic all the time. People say that it is a stereotype. Obviously it's not because NOT 100% of the community in question is obsessed with it. And do you agree in order to be a valid stereotype all involved in the community in question must be involved? Yes, they must.
I am just wondering if everyone is, and how difficult it is to find someone who isn't?

To answer the question, I don't think ALL gay people are obsessed with sex, but certainly a lot are. I think it has something to do with the fact that men are generally a lot more 'sex obsessed' than women. Like, having a gay couple put against a straight couple, I'd say the gay couple probably has more sex.
The inverse of this of course would be that lesbians aren't very interested in sex at all, which I dare say isn't true. So I guess my theory is wrong lol

It's very illogical that homosexuals have a stronger sexual drive than heterosexuals who mate(hhaha, they're animals! Beasts of burden! MWAHAHA!), but perhaps it's a sign that nature wants gays to survive? Who0 knows...

I would have to say that there are just some people that are more into sex than others. I think people tend to believe the gay community is more sex obsessed because of things such as the gay pride parades were it is thrown into their faces. The fact that this is not a proper, full and complete picture does little to deter most people from thinking it. People tend to believe things because it is easier than finding the truth. Well it's seen as acceptable for gay people to screw around...Straight people just seem to be in a race to get hitched, move the the suburbs and have kids and then have extramarital sex.
Gay people are just not afraid to express and explore their sexuality...Well i think.

One thing gay people don't have to worry about is, well done, unwanted pregnancy. Meaning that inhibition is seriously dampened.
jeremymm, people say alot of things like that, but you'll find many stereotypes surrounding every controversial social group. Yes, there are a lot of gay people who are sex crazed, but are they more or less than the number of sex crazed hetro's? Who knows.
'I like sex, is nice' in the immortal words of Sasha Coen, BUT just because I think sex is one of the most wonderful experiences, doesn't mean I'm going to go looking for it on the street corner.

Teenagers, as a whole, stereotypically speaking, are pretty obsessed with sex... apparently, anyway.
Not just gay teens/youth but straight and whatever youth as well.
Thinking about it.. what sets the gay community apart is who we choose to have sex with and who we are sexually attracted to. Our SEXuality. So, of course people are going to link having sex and sexuality together. It's just.. i think people tend to think that homosexuality is the only sexuality, because everyone who isn't a homosexual is normal.. so therefore heterosexuality just kind of.. gets ruled out... because it's the norm. Like with subculture.. you have emos, and hippies, etc.. and then everyone else is just normal...

Naturally men do have stronger sex drives but i don't think that is why this stereotype exists. I think when people see or think about a gay couple all they can think about is the sexual part of the relationship because it is so "deviant." They fixate on the thing that is "out of the ordinary" or the things that makes them uncomfortable. Then in their mind this fixation becomes equated with all gays in general. At least I have chicken.

Ok, I have had this debate with many people before and none of them has given me a 100% convencing reason but one who came close is one of the most important gay sociologists (who btw is giving a conference in the UK in august). Well he said there were two main reasons: 1- that monogamy is not natural, we all are atracted to many guys or girls, it doesnt matter if we are homosexuals or heterosexuals. Monogamy was something created to protect "the family" and since we homosexuals were not allowed to have a family we had no reason to be monogamists. 2- We can separete LOVE from SEXUAL PLEASURE, meaning that we can love someone without having sex with him, we can love someone and have sex with him, and of course we can have sex with someone without having any feelings for him.
Then he said it was sort of an evolution that we can actually separete feelings from sexual pleasure, but I disagree I think thats more primitive and barbaric. I dont really believe gays are obsesded with sex its just that we have less strings attached than an avarage heterosexual. We are "allowed" to have sex for pleasure and in heterosexual community they are still debating whether they should have sex for pleasure or just to preseve the species.
