Ok. I'm not American and I don't have a vote in this either way.
Still I find this race thriling and gripping and it's alot more interesting than anything on Ireland's political landscape at the moment. So what we do we swing Guys and Girls/

Did you vote for President Medvedev? Or the communist leader? Or Kasparov?
John Howard or Kevin Rudd?
Tony Blair or the other guy?
Americans seem to idolise their politicians like false Gods, which is undoubtedly precisely what they'll offer when they come into power (if the don't get assassinated).
It's only a matter of time until they get the politicians to have Survivor Challenges, with a KFC-munching audience texting in their votes via SMS.
'Ay vt Obma cuz e iz kut, lol' On the ballot paper. You should always respect one's religious beliefs, however imaginary friends, delusional behaviour, a belief in a two thousand year old folk-lore should be treated by a professional.

Unfortunately Bravo is exactly right.
Most everyone is working themselves up to a fanatical hype over it. Rabid Obama supporters screaming "change" in the face of Hillary supporters and vice versa.
Personally, I don't give a shit. I just don't want another Republican. Either way it's just going to be another year of smear tactics and general political deception. I voted Hillary. She didn't whip out her religious views (that I am aware of) and she actually has a history, whereas I don't really see any meat in what Obama is saying. He does sound nice though, good rhetoric and all. "Where we have strong emotions, we're liable to fool ourselves." - Carl Sagan

I agree on the fact that it is getting fanatical but it sure is good to watch. Beats Sports anyday In my opinion and some second rate "sticoms" but that's just my preference.
I think everyone is getting too worked up over Obama. His hwole campaign is based around one speech he made against the Iraq war and that's it. SEcond coming and all that lark I don't think. Personally I prefer Hillary. Experience over a nice speech anyday.
I mean Obama can promise change and a hen for every American but he still has to do deal with the Senate something Hillary has experience in having been in the White house (albeit as First LAdy) and having been Senator of New york also. Obama's words are kind of like candyfloss. Pretty, sweet and goes down well but ultimiately leave you unfullfilled. It's mostly air.
Any maybe in the end it won't make a difference and the democrates will win anyways but until then I'm going to watch Fox news everynight of every state and I'm going to enjoy it.

- Hillary: Has experience. - Obama: Appears energetic.
If Hillary wins, then 40% of Americans will only ever have known a Bush or a Clinton in the White House.
-Yet to be honest, I think neither will truly address the great divides of America, based on wealth and race. 40 million have no healthcare, and poverty in some places is similar to that seen in Africa. (Steinbeck once wrote mockingly "children don't starve in the United States of America, they die of malnutrition." although this was during the 1930s) Ghettos exist and are caused by a rampant inequality in American society. US multinationals still exploit the world for resources. Workers rights, Civil rights and Civil liberties have been eroded. Finally America will still undermine democratically elected goverments if they choose to.
Neither candidates will address these issues, and even if they tried, they'll be branded a 'socialist' or a 'red'. This creates a media onslaught, and a moral panic, and could risk their campaigns.
-I agree that another Republican President (McCain) could be much worse.

Here are my personal opinions of each candidate:
Barack Obama: I think one of the reasons why he gets so much attention is due to the simple fact that he is black, if he was white than all his speeches would mean nothing. But the upside to Obama is because he's black, he has experiences growing up in foreign affairs and knows America and has a strong idealism of Street smarts. he had to work hard to get into the position that he is now. My only real concern with him is his leadership skills, we all know he can get public affection and we all know hes charismatic but hes a wild card. He speeches are pertained as epic and heroic, but actions speak much louder than words, though I truly do have passion for his idealisms, and his belief system but hes bit of a wild card.
Hilary Clinton: One of the reasons that Hilary Clinton gets so much attention is because shes a woman, its both a negative and positive thing like Barack Obama. One of her weaknesses is the mere fact that shes not mentally fit to carry out a war but her positives are indeed her intellectualism of book smarts and experience which is both what Barack lacks but what Hilary lacks is charisma and lack of appeal. A lot of Americans find her too safe-guardish and get the feel that shes only doing this for herself, not for saving a country. But her main points revolve around Health Care which can be a huge turn of events, but she lacks assertiveness (which Barack pertains). Personally I dont care for Clinton but I do like the fact thats she educated but I dont think America is ready for a woman president especially in this current state. I would say the 80's and early 90's would have been perfect for a woman president but sadly there would be many prejudices against her right now because she is a woman. Im not prejudice at all, but this nation needs a fighter.
My Solution: If either presidential candidate is to be elected president, they should hire their democratic competitor and put them as their vice president because Clinton has what Barack needs and Barack has what Clinton needs, if they were to join forces then this country can make a huge turn over.
My political thoughts on John McCain is short and brief. Hes Bush number 2, the only good qualifications he has as a leader is military service. He has potential to be a good president but his age is going to socially bring this country back from change. I personally dont care for him but I do believe he can lead our country to finish the war, but as a leader he would destroy this country. Besides hes like 71, he can easily croak and we should do the man a favor and not vote for him.
