Your own religion... yay.

I've been thinking to myself lately about how I would go about creating a religion. It would be great fun to just make up one's own god(s) from one's imagination, and then wrap it/them in ritual, fables, and all your general religious ramblings. So, I'm curious as to what other people might create if they could invent their own religion. People do it all the time in a sense by creating their own interpretations of religious scriptures, but it's not nearly so original or exciting as creating one's own. So if you wish, please humour me and give me your ideas for a self-made religion or concepts you would consider ideal in a religion.

I'm also curious, I admit, as to how much actual religious views would effect one's ideas, so if you care to share with me your concepts, feel free to be fully open and as broad as you wish. This is one case where I won't attack anyone. I promise.

I could go the easy route and do a carbon-copy of Scientology, but I could put some thought into it.

Obviously, all it's beliefs would directly benefit myself, of course

But to take the question seriously. It would be a 'religion', or a set of values based on harm... and... not much else. A doctrinal law that judges based on harm. Not morals, or numbers, but the prevention of harm in as many forms as possible. Simple as that. Really, if I had to invent my own 'religion', it'd probably just quickly turn into a seedy '70s free-love cult
You should always respect one's religious beliefs, however imaginary friends, delusional behaviour, a belief in a two thousand year old folk-lore should be treated by a professional.

That's a really great idea, BravoLima. I hadn't really thought about it like that.

I'm not sure what mine would be like, but having that as the fundamental idea would be a great one.

First of all my religion would have to be polytheism, so you wouldn't get bored with just one god. Also it means you could incorporate some drama into your faith, as in almost all ancient religions the gods tend to be squabiling and taking revenge against each other, which is much more fun than than just one preachy old bastard.

There'd need to be some gods more powerful and dominant than others to keep order and stop all out heavenly anarchy ( though such an event would be foretold to happen one day and bring about the apocalypse ).

Also each god would have to be half something normal, and half something supernatural, and obviously boast a kick-ass name
