A Thought

Anyone can make a convincing argument for or against any religious view if they know how to present their information. For example, a person could make an argument for God that's just as convincing as another person's argument against God. So, aren't we better off trying to find our own religious views without relying too much on anyone else's opinion but our own?

Sure, and we would also be better off if people started living in peace... but we must be pragmatic. If I see fundamentalism taking control of my country and infringing on my rights, is it not my responsibility as a citizen to stand up and oppose it? Sure, in arguments one can use rhetorical tricks which add to the believability of the argument, but I think that actual evidence must count for something... If we want to have religious views don't you think they should have some basis in reality? I could believe that man came from aliens, but I still have to answer where those aliens came from.

Anyway, as I said in my response to Sxcriley's post, I argue because people are letting their religion influence decisions that affect me. Is Sxcriley forcing his religion on me? No, but by arguing I help myself better understand what I am defending, as well as understand the arguments against it.

Any idiot can make a convincing arguement, if they try hard enough. Just look at politicians, if they can do it, so can you. It's up to the receiver to judge it; based, at least hopefully, on it's own merits, not who is telling the information or other possibly biasing information.

No, if no one ever challenged anyone elses opinion, we would never learn and change. We would stagnate, all within our selves and in our little niche of perverted delusions.

People questioning your beliefs/opinions would be like putting it through it's paces. If it comes out successfully in your view, well, there's nothing much anyone else can really do about that. If it comes out puffing, panting and overall totally raped, it's time to re-evaluate things.
You should always respect one's religious beliefs, however imaginary friends, delusional behaviour, a belief in a two thousand year old folk-lore should be treated by a professional.

MooYak: I love getting name dropped in your posts =P

BravoLima: Very good (a little too good if you ask me)
