You'll find it in rebellion
Your body starts breathing
They're not believing what they're seeing
'Cause you're rebellion

+1 to Bjork. Love that woman.
As for mine...
Rob Halford is a big one, since he made a lot of metal fans more open-minded, which is good for me.
David Bowie. He was never afraid to be outrageous despite the thoughts of society.
Allen Ginsberg. One of the great gay poets of the 20th century.
Then there's yer regulars, Judy Garland, River Phoenix, Morrissey, etc.

EDIT- Completely forgot my Rufie Wainwright. <3

Margaret Cho - one of the funniest comedians I've ever seen.
Ant - a gay comedian, also hilarious.
Ellen DeGeneres - especially how her TV show remains very popular even after her coming out.
Meh, there's probably more.

Are you forgetting about Chris Crocker??? he's amazing.....=/

Okay but seriously, I think Matthew Lush a.k.a Gaygod is pretty good, and he's easy on the eyes.

+1 to Björk, again. She's just awesome.

William S. Burroughs, maybe that's an odd choice but the guy wrote about his homosexuality whilst it was illegal and was an incredible writer. Although on the flipside he was a heroin addict and he shot his wife.

Jón Þór Birgisson, guitarist and singer of Icelandic rock band Sigur Rós, he's so adorable it's un-fucking-real and his music is absolutely beautiful, it's a potent combo.

Despite the negative reaction Chris Crocker received for "Leave Brittney Alone" and the overwhelming amount of hate comments he has received because of his outspokenness, AND his weird perserverence to an irresponsible star who's lost her talent and her mind, I love Chris Crocker. Some of his videos are so funny, and some of the serious ones (besides Leave Brittney Alone) are very provocative.

Matthew Lush, as a vegetarian, I love him. He's really cute. I love his snakebites!

Eliter: Jake Gyllenhaal? Do you mean because of Brokeback Mountain?

Definitely Chris Garneau.
Excellent musician, and the fact that he's openly gay makes him that much better.

Facebook.

I think that right off the bat, Sir Ian McKellen takes the top of my list. Enough said.

Jón Þór Birgisson also is near the top. I mean he's gay, he has an incredible voice and falsetto, and he's not afraid to go places with his music that others are.

More props to Bjork from me.

And even though he isn't gay, David Bowie is definitely a gay icon and I (like any self-respecting person) adore him.

Also, Grace Jones is the most beautiful person in the world.

Rupert Everett, how could I forget!? Sauve man, good actor. Everyone on here, I urge you to watch "Another Country", you will not be disappointed.

Sharon Osbourne... bluh! She's done adverts for ASDA and Gala Bingo, even if she's a judge on the X Factor she still doesn't earn gay icon credentials.

I don't know if many people know of this great gay couple, but they have to be mentioned

Akbar and Jeff from Matt Groening's pre-simpsons cartoons, i mean not only are they gay, they also wear fezzes, what more could you want?

Concur! Moab is my Washpot is the best (only) autobiography I have ever read: witty and moving, although on occasion a little bit too frank. Still, it's quite nice to know that my experiences are hadrly isolated: I related far too heavily to his Matteo obcession.

I'd also like to add Sir Ian McKellen, who is another superb actor, and a civil rights advocate who supports charities including Stonewall, The National Youth Theatre and School's Out. I think that makes him a really worthy figure: it's good to see someone really fighting for something they care about. I just hope he successfuly campaigns against these changes to arts funding, or else it will be a dark day for Britain, indeed.

Definitely Deborah Harry.
She is to me, who stereotypically Judy Garland is to a lot of people.

She's a punk-pioneer, gorgeous glamor-model, amazing singer, bad girl, along with being a human rights activist. She's just amazing all around. :]
