Why is it this site is so slow i would use it more often but i dont have time to wait on it loading up
It isnt my internet connection tis just this site
has any 1 else noticed

Yes, it is slower than others. But without donations the site would be even slower.

Hey
You all are a 100% correct. TheGYC is purely a non-profit organization, so all funding that we do get in the form of donations and sponsors go straight back into improving the site and its' resources...and this is the only way that the site will ultimately become faster and overall...better!
Running a website like this does incur quite a few expenses and so every little bit help. ^_^

I used to have a problem where a page was loading and nothing showed up; all was visible was a white screen and I had to keep clicking the refresh button.
The site is faster now and I don't see white screens. Woooo! =D

the site is still really slow and i think you should get rid of the degrees thing.no one pays attention to it anyway.it was a good idea though!

Like Shaun said, all donations help, the staff don't get paid but you would be surprised how expensive site's like these are. If you don't want to/can't donate then try clicking on the ads.

Yeah I was just about to ask if this site is always so slow, or is it just
temporary. It's sooooooo slow 
I suggest to remove the search function, it would relieve the servers greatly.
That function isn't really so necessary, and the site loading speed has priority.

Its one thing saying more donations will help pay to make the site faster.
But I won't donate because I find the site so slow.
I find it over fussy.
To many things it should be simplified.
Taking some non-essential stuff off would help.
Another thing that annoys me is that it keeps telling me I have messages when I have read and deleted them. Its telling me I have one now buts it one I read and deleted over a week ago.
Other sites which rely on donations like Fitlads don't have these problems.
I've also sent messages to GYC and never received a reply.

I have donated a few times, and will continue to do so, but i do think that the site could be more efficient by editing certain features or queries and deleting un-used accounts, if the images are hosted on the website, try putting a low size limit? or making people host images externally...
Donations will also help for a larger server, but i think the features need editing...

It's all very well people saying certain features should be removed. However, there is a lot that goes on behind the scences already, and the actual code and site design is done by Hamish so everything takes time. There have been changes made but not everything can be done in an instant.

This site goes slow sometimes. But I use FireFox and it goes super fast.. And I use dial-up.

Register a .org, then you can call this place an organization...
This site is too damn slow and not enough funds isn't too great of an excuse. You want visitors, you have them.. you're going to get more.. You might like to keep them. I left for a long period of time because of the poor loading time. I wont donate to a place that isn't meeting my expectations. :/ It's been a year since my joining.. Something should have happened. Show me results.

Excuse me.... I'm sorry... How much did you pay for your account? How much did you pay for access to the chatroom? And to the forums?
We offer this as a free service to YOU. How about you show a little more thanks and respect than badgering us on our own public forums.

Yes, funds do make a huge difference to the running of the servers as all funds go straight to keeping TheGYC running. No
However, if you don't want to donate, its ultimately your choice but its ultimately you who is going to suffer.
Social networking sites place a lot of stress on the servers due to the amount of connections and vast amounts of date that it has to go through. However, we've already had to do away with some nice forum users stats to help keep the website running.
We'll just hope to have some cooperation from more sensible people who aren't self-contradicting between what they expect to receive and want they think should be done to get it.

Yea.. free site.. it's amazing
I can deal with how slow it is.. just think of the people that have dial-up and be glad if you don't
but as a side note, how does one donate to the site?
it's on the right menu bar, it's a yellow button

AFAIK Fitlads doesn't rely entirely on donations. You can become a premium member for three quid per month and it looks as if many pay up. Whereas, with regard to increasing the speed of THIS site, I reckon the answer lies in attracting more sponsors/advertisers.
