Since this thread was empty, a topic like this seems a good ice-breaker so ya whats your faith ? what crazy sect do you follow ? But more importantly why ?
Me, I was raised a catholic but it never really took effect. I guess I lost all faith about the age of 13 when I remember accidentally seeing the priest knock over a candle on the bible and the book going up in flames. It was so funny but for me it just seemed so fake.

I agree in a way. I don't have a religion I follow myself, but my family has always tried to get me to become whatever it is that they are. When younger I was forced to go to church and all this garbage, but now that I'm older they just let me be. I don't really care if other people have a religion as long as it isn't forced on me at all, bcause that shouldn't work that way.

Do ppl think that our generation in the UK/US are becoming less religious? maybe it's a gay metrosexual sortof thing? - that's not to say our spirituality has gone but perhaps the idea of being attached to a certain religion. I think in some cases people detatch themselves from religious because of negative images etc.
Personally i'm not religious, and nor are my family. Although all of my grandparents are/were very religious people - seemed to halter at my parents who weren't interested..
The church in the UK is having probs. Because of low turnouts lots of churches are closing - some ppl have said we're looking at future figures of one church a week!!

Im ok with other peoples beliefs but i always thought people only believe in what they either feared or wanted.
Our generation is definalty less religious if slightly religious at all. Faith was forced on alot of people which took a negative impact with people. I think the idea of religion is quickly fading
oh ya, atheism, party for one

I was raised in a christian family, and also made to go to church my whole life...all the time...Now i have huge issues with "god" and religion...i believe in god, but i am very angry with him and i am sick of all the rules, judgemental people, and condemnation. The woman i love (who i haven't spoken to in two years...b/c of parents) is a christian...and its hard to imagine she may never be with me all b/c of god and what she has been taught...she thinkgs homosexuality is wrong...a sin. and i don't...at all...anyways...i just hope everything works out....

i, myself, am roman catholic. i find no solace in my religion whatsoever, and have grown to hate it over time. there's nothing quite the same as sitting in an uncomfortable pew, next to a smelly old guy and an old lady hacking up her lungs, while listening to your priest / bishop / authority figure condemn homosexuals, nonbelievers, demonize women and people who are different...i've grown to hate organized religion. there's just not a point to alot of them. its sad to know my church hates people like me...i really think homosexuality, among other things, is hated so much in the religious word, because it all comes back to people fearing what they cannot explain or accept. if i believed in god, i would not believe in him/her condemning poeple for being gay or lesbian or bi or anything, just as i couldnt see blue-eyed people being damned. my boyfriend brought up the point that he sees churches teaching about god through fear, and he believes that's wrong, and that god should be taught through love. i couldn't agree more.

I define myself as Christian, Protestant to be more specific, but no more specific than that because of my multi-denominational upbringing. I disagree with the ideas of Catholicism, in that they are too strict and I am an avid sinner even by the loosest of religious belieifs. Why do I say this as if I do not care, because truth is I do not. The whole make-up of my alleged religion is forgiveness and acceptance. As far as I can tell, the religious youth that were not brought up horribly conservative aren't homophobic in the sense that they hate gay people as much as they are afraid that they are gay as well. I was brought up Mehodist and then Baptist, but I find a room full of people who are instilled with the holy spirit to be a distraction. I like a calmer method of teaching. I experimented with other denominations, but found them to be equally disappointing. I guess the fault in my sense of religion is that I prefer to observe and attempt to understand, not be part of it, or at least directly into it. I cannot jump up and down and be excited about something that I at times disagree with. I guess I'm still religious in the hopes that I can reform the church at least a little bit. There are those with similar beliefs. I don't want to believe that I'm going to hell for being gay, even if it turns out to be true, religion is supposed to be about hope. I'm not planning on attacking the church or publicly releasing my views for years to come. That's my spin on religion. Long, eh? I'm a flirt, but you're gonna have to come a little harder if you want to come over here.

Maybe people are not becoming less religious but just looking for churches that are less strict in their beliefs because the public philosophy is changing and the mainstream churches are not changing to keep up with that.

Honestly i haven't been 2 church n sum time, my bad excuse 4 my family is because we're xtremely busy. however, God and i have had our differences thru my coming out, and sumtimes i dont kno whats right. sum of my best friends r very religious and very homophobic. lately ive convinced myself that there is nuthing wrong w/ being who we r, that is what God wants, but it is the world who hates us because of its misunderstandings (the way they were brought up). furthermore i dont fully rely on the bible, because of the fact that it has been translated thru many different languages, and who's 2 say that corrupt officials, such as bishops and priests in the medieval ages, havent added a thing or 2 stating wut they want 2 believe n, such as the fact that homosexuality is wrong. not 2 mention if homosexuality is wrong then y did God create hermaphrodites. n conclusion, i pity those of u who lack faith n God, the 1 that i still try 2 keep n my life, however many times n my life i may change. 4 i like u have become a skeptic. God help us all!!!

As far as translation goes. I think that may be an issue that we have overlooked. I think that some people have used the bible and translations of it in order to push their own agendas. Even in untampered with passages, the way it interpreted that influences people. I've studied the bible very closely to find a passage that says that homosexuality is wrong. It's not there. A passage that specifically strikes down masturbation, it does not exist. And it has been debated, mostly in class, the true meanings of these passages, and further more the books themselves. Furthermore in the case of marriages, is there not supposed to be a seperation of church and state, that would make a majority of claims against same-sex marriage invalid. Back to translation. I also do not understand how anybody can truly say what Christ believes and if we want to reference the books, we have to first consider that although the books are based on the teachings, a teaching that I follow, they are slightly archaic. And many things have changed... If we want to have a relationship with God in the present, we have to live in the present. That's what I believe and I'm fine with it. I'm a flirt, but you're gonna have to come a little harder if you want to come over here.

i like how you think. i've never actually cared enough to go look in the bible for those things...i do have a rather funny thing to say, though. before i say it, id like to make it very clear that i do not believe in god or my religion, but i find it extremely laughable how these ardent catholics and such insist that god created man "in his own likeness", so if that's true, why did god "create" homosexuals?? apparently god created humans...and unless these idiot religious freaks suddenly deem gay people "aliens", then they fall into the category of man...all of whom are apparently created in the likeness of a god who "condemns" such **behavior**...
that is a typical arguement i would raise against some crazy bible-thumper. -T0r!

I like that argument, it's an intelligent approach to tell people that say that there's something wrong with me to kiss my @ss, I think that is something worth considering. Wow, that is really good. While I search for a way to continue in this argument with some debating "friends" of mine, I'd like to thank you. That's it...for real I'm a flirt, but you're gonna have to come a little harder if you want to come over here.

wow. thats a question worth pondering. Personally in my opinion, not to bash anyone here, I think that religion is just a brainwashing idea to get people to give churchs more money and power. Also THe biggest brainwasher of all is in my opinion, sorry if you are, Catholic. They have a Pope that can only talk to what they call "GOD". Im sorry to any and all catholics in this website but its true. If you people really want to talk to GOD do it yourself. As for me, I dont have a religion and was once a pentacostal christian. I dont really know what to say about this very increasingly popular topic lol I, myself, was baptized a Catholic and up until the age of about 10 or 11 I went to church every sunday. My mum is a catholic and all her family was brought up in the same way. My dad being from Hong Kong doesn't particularly have a religion and hasn't had one imposed on him in any way. As I got older everything just seemed to fade. I don't think as a kid I actually bought into any of it, either that or I was too busy drawing on the weekly newsletter to bother listening. I've become pretty skeptic of it all and don't really follow a religion of any sort at all. I mean I've gone to Catholic schools and things but I'm just not a believer. I don't feel any contempt towards anybody of a religion I just think when it seems to consume them and things get a little crazy it's time to put THAT book away... and when they try to start 'sell it to me' - screw it! Put those leaflets away, if I want divine aid I'll come looking for it. One more funny thing I've just notcied: take my mother's side 'the catholics', the Brundish family is so f*ed up its untrue! Alcoholics, suicides, arguements that have split the family right down the centre; then take my dad's side, the 'non-imposing atheists' and they're living happy as bunnies , 'family' being one of the strongest things holding them together. Not religion. Just a thought IPpy-i-ay

I plan to read the Stranger and the da Vinci Code, and until then I cannot comment on the books. But I have to express disgust for what my religion is becoming. I have no life and so from time to time I find myself watching infomercials. I was watching one of those miracle shows and one of those miracle water things. And those are such a scam, and for someone who claims to be religious, that should make them feel so freaking unclean. I guess I really shouldn't care though because the only people who buy the crap are trailer trash and old black people. But they have souls too, I guess. My mother is also fighting the principles of the church, but for reasons different than my own. I haven't been to an organized mass since Easter...no I skipped that one, Christmas. I used to be so religious, but our youth group manger was so holier than thou, that i punched him out and cussed him out and haven't been back to that state since. We either need a religious reform or we just need to screw it all together, because this sh*t makes no freakin' sense, oh my gah, if not for the love of my family and my wish not to be assassinated I might have given a little sermon of my own denouncing the common man and his ways and the way outrageous expectations and political biases sicken me. Instead my last sermon as a junior pastor was about Moses, and people caught my drift. Thank you everyone, I don't think I can ever go back to the church, at least not until I have the answers to all those questions. Who knows it might be better that way. That's it until I read those books and make a decision. Wow, I suck I'm a flirt, but you're gonna have to come a little harder if you want to come over here.

yoyoyo guys, i'm something of a forum virgin but seeing as i have far too much spare time i thought i'd chip in with some wise (ha) words.... i personally see no redeeming factors in religion, and its basically just something to make people feel a little less depressed about their pointless little lives. of course us enlightened ones (mainly in the uk where religion is dying, no offence to u american ppl (dont envy you)) dont need religion. if you want something to turn you into an atheist, read the stranger by camus, tis wwwwwell good (say in a chav accent for full effect). also i dont see how anyone could trust a 2000 yr old book of propaganda, although i also dont agree with the da vinci code, but even so...... anyway, since i have an empty inbox, feel free to msg me to make me feel a little more popular

wow. After reading everyones opinion, including my own, I saw that we are all right in our opinions. All of our opinions together sum up that religion is a way to brainwash people through fear and power. And after being a christian for so long, I got tired of the lies, greed, and hypocrytes in the church. If the people actually lived by their religions, people would have a better chance of understanding topics like homosexuality. And As much as I have read the bible, I have never once seen anything on Homosexuality and if you were you would go to hell. That my friends is the biggest lie in the world today. A perfect example would be Spongebob Squarepants. The catholic religion has come out to say that hes Gay. Well to the dissapointment of the catholics, he never was and never will be because hes asexual. Which means A) doesnt have any kind of seual desire AND doesnt have sex organs. EVEN THE GREATOR HIMSELF SAID THAT SPONGEBOB was asexual. Theres your perfect example of brainwashing and religion. Autumn Raiyne
