It may sound really feminine but I listened to Coldplay either "The Scientist/ Trouble"

Well that was the last time I got heartbroken, hopefully it never happens again

hallelujah - rufus wainwright
chasing cars - snowpatrol (as a longing for that kind of love)
(i have to agree with Gucci Guy) the scientist - coldplay
Strange and Beautiful - Aqualung
heaven forbid - the fray.
i have to quote from the last one: "heaven forbid you end up alone and don't know why. hold on tight just wait for tomoroow you'll be alright" .

It seems strange that whenever I'm said/upset/depressed/lonely/heartbroken/whatever, I listen to sad and depressing songs.

I have to agree with Aqualung - Strange and Beautiful.
Also, Radiohead - Karma Police, that's a good'un.
Thirdly, when I'm sad I always think about my uncle's funeral and my great grandma's funeral, where Somewhere Over The Rainbow and Fields Of Gold were played.

Cheery, as ever!

when I'm really down, I prefer to play some songs that I know. I play the piano, see, and have lots of sheet music for the above songs. I prefer to play them.

Hurt - Nine Inch Nails ['cause I'm unoriginal and it's better than the Johnny Cash version]
Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley [I think it's beautiful]
Confined - As I Lay Dying [It helped me through a lot. Can't really explain why.]
Halo - Depeche Mode ['cause I'm weird ]

Ahh hmm. I had a fat playlist of depresso songs like 4 months ago when I was going through my unrequited love phase:

  • Perfect Day - Lou Reed (herion, boys, it's all the same)

  • Crown Of Love - The Arcade Fire (love that's gone sour)

  • Endlessly - Muse (unrequited, Bodhisattva love; me to a T)

  • The Final Cut - Pink Floyd (never had the nerve to make the final cut)

  • End Of The Movie - CAKE (but you still don't like to leave before the end of the movie)

  • Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright (I prefer his version. Hey I can like Hallelujah with the rest of you!)

  • Everybody Needs Somebody to Love - The Blues Brothers (sorta uplifting, yah? Signify your feelings with every gentle caress)

  • Someday You Will Be Loved - Death Cab for Cutie (typical, I know. But it works.)

  • and I Will Follow You Into The Dark - also by Death Cab for Cutie (like Endlessly, although less arsekicking. But still a good'un.)

  • Beautiful Freak - Eels (You're such a beautiful freak. I wish there were more just like you. You're not like all of the others, and that is why I love you.)

and, strangely enough, a song by Electric Six - Johnny Carter. (Not exactly about personal depression or love, but about the Human Condition. All good). You must all get into this song. Steal it from the Information Superhighway.

I'ma get into all those other songs people have mentioned when I get real internet speeds back next month. Friday.
Music that people with taste are listening to this week:

Without a doubt the new Evanescence album The Open Door. Mostly the song Lithium because it's just so sad and self-pitying in a way. But also just that album because it's a good way to turn the sadness slowly into anger.

May sound a bit crazy, but I find that after being sad an heartbroken for a while, it's good to get in touch with ones anger, since it makes you strong and better with coping in a way. As long as you also deal with your sadness and also permit yourself to be just that.

Cripple and the Starfish- Antony and the Johnsons. Because it's got some great little lines in it ("It's true I always wanted love to hurt me") but also because it's a bit of a 'torch' song ("It'll grow back like a starfish")

If You Find Yourself Caught In Love - Belle & Sebastian. This is the opposite to above - it's really cheery and upbeat and a lot of fun.

Delia's Gone - Johnny Cash. A song about shooting his cheating lover. Great. In fact, anything really off of the American albums - they're fantastic.

Andy, You're A Star - The Killers. Written about a boy he fancied at school, I can totally relate to it and it's a pretty good song too.

Nightswimming - REM. An awesome piano part and really great lyrics. Creates such a great picture.

I generally just like a bit of a mope most the time, but not most of the false "I'm so sad, I'm crying" crap that makes up a lot emo and 'singer-songwriters' nowadays. I like it to be a bit more subtle and that packs alot more punch.
I'll tell you what Jesus would NOT do - Jesus would not wreck a guy's party.
