Biologically speaking, the meaning of life is to perpetuate our genetic material. Our bodies are, in this sense, nothing but very elaborate vessels by which our genes are passed on.
However, in the sense that was implicit in your question, I believe we create our own meaning. A predetermined meaning implies that there was some invisible man in the sky who created us for the sole purpose of fulfilling that meaning, and I find this to be a rather absurd hypothesis.

Sensibly said Borto... The invisible man is just dumb. Not as ridiculous as the scientologists' Xenu though,

Funny... Everyone is free to believe why we live. But, there will never be any way to determine the reason why we exist. This fact is, and will remain, that it is beyond our comprehension. If we find a "plausible" answer we will need to support that with some other reasoning which would be the cause of that plausibility entering in an infinite circle of constant action->result. I believe we are here to better ourselves through evolution, maintain our specie and not repeat the mistakes of our ancestors.

Post edited by: tipas1, at: 2007/03/18 19:59

So you believe we create our own meaning, didn't we "create" our own meanings with religion?
And being gay, we are biological failures

Well, what I meant was that we create our own meaning on a personal level by what we do with our own lives. I reject the meaning imposed upon us by the organized religions, which is what I meant by the invisible man.

Very ambitious post....
Some say the meaning of life is to find eudaimonia, that is a greek term for complete happiness that can not be taken away by anything, a form of peaceful existence in happiness. They say this can be done by achieving virtue. Among the important ones most people are missing are wisdom and self-control. Get those and some courage and justice and you will have found the meaning of life.
But others say it's to examine all topics on earth, to quote Socrates "The unexamined life is not worth living"
