Why? You, and I, and everyone, like all other animals, look for good genetics. We look for these in looks. Our bodies have adapted over time to be attracted to people with good genetics to increase the likelihood of creating something decent.

Choosing people based on what they look like and not their personality is something purely natural, and totally politically incorrect.

Though I'd warn you that quite a few attractive people know they're attractive, which can have a pretty negative effect on their personality.

This is all very true, the part where humans have adapted to find good genetics attractive that is, however its not hard to overcome liking someone even though they might be overweight. I keep in shape and its sad to say that I do it because a nice body is attractive.

Genetics and the attraction that we get from them isn't simply a matter of physical appearance, there are other features that people develop in order to ensure that their genes are selected to be passed on. Intelligence is one, without it people wouldn't survive (also why people look for it). Other personality traits are the same. Think of it a bit like this, there are some people that you'd like to take into a secluded room and have your way with no strings attached, there are others that you can picture yourself being with for a longer amount of time and settling down with, the difference is personality, and it is therefore also important.

That's rubbish. Lightly toned and skinny is nice. That or muscled, really. Fat is just not attractive. It's not fair, girls can pull it off with a bit of flab, however us guys can't.

Yes, of course there are some other factors, but attraction is something real and important. It's just annoying when people get so muffled by pcness when they apologise for looking for people based primarily on what they look like. We're animals, that's what we do. As far as the grande schemed of species perpetuation, there's little difference between 'a quick shag', and 'settling down', as most the time both end up with the same result. Naturally, back in the good ole' days of when we lived in tribes there was no or very few reasons to stick around to the end, so agreeing with someone's 'personality' was of little importance, and seeing as we've come so far without progressing very far genetically, it's reasonable to see that we're naturally quite similar.

By the by, I didn't mean being fat was unhealthy as far as attraction and unattraction full stop. I remember a friend saying from his stay in Kenya that people viewed overweight people as the sexiest of all. Comparing skinny and fat based purely on health concenrs, I'd go skinny anyday, also noting that skinny is NOT underweight.

Ok i dont like some of these replies. Since when is it healthy for a normal adult male to have 5-8% body fat? thats gross and unhealthy unless ur an athlete with such a high muscle % then it can look spot on.

i dont like skinny boys, and i dont like obese people as how can you judge looks when they are shrouded in fat? you cant, loose weight and we will see what a person looks like. im not skinny, and im not exactly obese either, im just tall and broad and u cant see my ribs. but then again, why would a guy be interested in someone so skinny that he can see ribs and "abs" i say abs with the use of inverted comas as most skinny guys havent worked their abs in their lifes, its just coz they r too skinny and that isnt attractive. Real 6 packs however take a massive effort and who ever can achieve one, deserves a well done, but personally, im too lazy to be so concerned with abs anyway. A couple of lbs over a lads ideal weight usually looks spot on for me. I am a fan of medium sized love handles, however. It makes love making sexy when you have a powerful figure manhandling you and not a skinny runt being blown away by your moans and groans. or a light cough.

u try waking up everyday for the next 50 years next to a guy with zero conversation skills and who is as bright as the colours in the mafia suit catalouge, despite looking like an underwear model. maybe then you'll appreciate the guy who inspires you and dives into the depths of your soul with his words and wisdom. you might be able to to accept his thin lips, or slightly thick thighs, or that ugly blemish on his shoulder or even not to mention how imperfect his hair is looking.

in the world of gay vanity, the above are hardly acceptable, but there is someone for everyone and in the end personality triumphs over looks.

Blindy, you're mixing up looks with health on the skinny/fatty issue, and I think I know why. Read a book. That's around the level of fat that your body needs before you'll really suffer problems from lack of fat, it's not what you find 'attractive'. It's not about looks it's about health, Jeez Louiz.

Dude, that's what 'abs' are. It's not that a guy's so muscly that you can see his abs, it's the lack of body fat. A bodybuilder in bulking season will have a spare tyre in fat around his middle, and there'll be no sign of an abdominus rectus in sight, but after cutting season's in full swing, lo and behold there it is.

Lol, so lightly toned and skinny guys are "nice" ... "nice" and "unhealthy" are two completely different realms there. Attractive and unhealthy, again, two different realms. Fat may not be attractive, and it is not healthy, but too skinny may not be attractive, and it is definately not healthy.

How can u state this, personality may make people like you, but so do looks.
think of it this way...
i would rather get with sumone that looks decent with a slightly bad personality that someone who is completly ugly with a slightly better personality.

I am not saying from my pervious posts that i prefure a completly dead personality and good looks. I am merley saying that I beleive looks, in todays cuture are more important to me and to a certain extent I beleive most people I know would believe this as well..
