TV has completely transformed the whole view of wicca and paganism into something way out of proportion... When you see pagans and wiccans on tv (unless its a documentary about them... although even in documentaries) they usually exaggerate their characters to make them look more interesting and something you would want to watch; as they are not that different to anyone else in real life. Also, I have been a pagan all my life and I don't watch TV pretty much at all, so for me there is no link between the two.

Post edited by: lewdangel2007, at: 2007/08/05 14:26

since wen did tv shows every portray anything accurate? lmao... i mean, its obvious to everyone that Will and Grace clearly exaggerates homosexuality (altho it is a hilarious show).
I must confess tho, that in my earlier days, the media has influenced me a bit. Growing up in a (maoist-communist-influenced) atheist family, I have always been lost, so-to-speak. I felt directionless, and disillusioned about the world, and myself, that I was able to believe anything (even the exaggerated or romanticized stuff in tv or books) just to give myself a bit of self-confidence. What wicca has done for me, wen i found it, was that it gave me a sense of purpose and focus in life to motivate me to pursue my passions, and be proud of who i am. As seen earlier, I now smile in amusement at how tv portrays many things instead of desperately clinging onto them. That's my take on it, anyways...

well yes tv has been changing the views on wicca, but you have to admit some things from charmed are somewhat right, like well phoebes power of preminitions and stuff, but like person magic could result in concequences and ugh there was something else but I can't remember, but yeah I think I became a wiccan because of some things from charmed, anyway I have a question. for as long as I can remember, I've always been interested in anything that has to do with magic, tv shows, movies, books, such. yeah lately stupid things are being made about magic like tv shows and movies, but still I find it kind of interesting, but why is it that I like it so much, because like really the only books I will ever read are ones that deal with magic and stuff but its just weird I can't explain why I like it so much

To those bashing everyone who believes this... Shut the hell up! We aren't bashing you on your beliefs, and you have no right to insult ours.
I have recently discovered the truth in all of this. My.. former lover.. used to do rituals and stuff, and while I didn't believe in the at first, I could feel something being released every time, and it was a pretty powerful experience for me.
I am trying to get a hold of books and suff to help me better understand all of this. but.. I believe I may be able to shed some light as to why some covens won't accept you until you are 18.. Those covens likely practice a lot of sex magick, and don't want to get in trouble for bringing you into that.
I have seen this at work, and while a lot of people think it is crazy... all of the rituals and chants actually do something if the person believes in it strongly enough.

Post edited by: Dan69, at: 2007/09/16 04:25
