Can Gays and God go together?~ 3 Years ago

I have touched on this before with gay marriage comments, but I was wondering how many of you guys believe organised religion and homosexuality can go together. For me it seems unthinkable to subscribe to a life style that shames a large part of what you are. The bible clearly says that being gay is wrong (Yes I know its in Exodus and Leviticus but christians still adhere to its commandments). I just wonder why people can listen to some of 'God's' teachings and ignore some, but pratice others. Something doesn't seem to click there. Maybe you can feel that 'God loves everybody' therefore you can pratice your faith, maybe like me, you feel that while, yes, God does love everybody, he doesn't love what I do, and therefore if I did pratice that faith with conviction, I would have to change that element of my lifestyle. What are your views?

i've often wondered the same exact thing and i haven't really found any answers. it's a topic i'm still confused about. my uncle is gay and mt grandpa (who used to be a preacher) and i talked about the whole religion thing and being gay. he said God won't send him to hell for it as long as he is a christian and has faith , but i'm still confused as hell. but thats what a former preacher said, so.

So your Grandpa says that as long as he loves God and pratices Christianity he is sure to go to heaven, even though he chooses to lead a lifestyle that goes against the teaching of the bible? Well in that case, paedophiles, murderers, adulterers, terrorists and rapists can all go to heaven as well then as long as they love Jesus and call themselves Christians. That sound right?

God is always right correct? So if God made all beings then he made gay people too. So the next time a hard core christian asshole gets on your case or you start doubting yourself just remeber God can't be wrong and God put us all here for a reason. Oh and tell the asshole christians that to question God is a sin so they shouldn't judge you.

this is a good question....i come from a pretty liberal place and the way our church teaces it is that when they refer to people being gay in the bible and it being wrong my church says they are talking about older men sleeping with younger boys....in those days i guess it was common especially in Rome to have upperclass men in the 40s and what not sleeping with like 10 year old boys....just thought i would share what my church teaches.

I think it's more likely for organized religion and organized crime to go together.

I would say that this is a very difficult question, in which a definitive answer would be hard to come by. Yes, homosexuals obviously exist, and well, God isn't striking them dead for it...If when we refer to God, we refer to the Judeo-Christian God, then yes, there is a conflict with biblical teaching says. While the Bible does clearly state homosexuality as a sin, the bible also includes sins such as: lying, murder, lust, gluttony, pride, etc. Nearly every person has committed 1 or most of these sins. Paul states that if any sin is committed, you break the entire law. Therefore, just as homosexuality is a sin that breaks the law (the biblica law), lust and whatnot does the same thing. While I wouldn't believe any evangelical christian would condone homosexuality, there is no reason for a christian to condemn a homosexual. The homosexual lifestyle is a clear contradiction to what the Bible says, but so all other sin. So the real question is, is the premeditated action of adhering to a homosexual lifestyle considered a pure rebellion against God? I have no idea. I believe homosexuality is real thing, obviously, but what to do about it if you believe in God and the bible, I'm not sure.... I've basically said nothing, lol...

I think at the end of the day god is ment to be the most powerful being on this earth and if he did not want gays on this earth that he created he would have not made us.

I wrote an article almost a year ago about this very issue. I can post it if you wish, but I will try to put it as compact as I can.
Being gay is not something that many would choose. Infact, I'd say probably 98% of gay men and women would have never chooen to be gay if it were such a simple thing as choice.
So, if being gay isn't a choice, then how can God (or who/whatever you believe) judge you to be condemned. My vision of God is not someone who punishes you for things you can't change, nor is He someone who creates a situation for you that causes you to make as big a sacrifice as not having someone to love and be loved by.
My God made me just how I am, gay and all. And He did it for a purpose. I can't really speculate what that purpose is, but I know in my heart that I will be judged not on who I love, but what I did. And in the end, we all will have to face that judgement, one way or the other.
Organized religion and I have our own battles. I am generally against it, not because it's a bad idea (quite opposite, I think having a place where people of the same interests and beliefs can be together in fellowship is great) but because when you add in human nature into a group like that it breeds hate and distrust and power-hunger and greed. It may take years, decades, before you see it for what it is, but it happens. I don't think that homosexuals and the "church" can ever be together. Close-minded people will always be there and when you get enough together, no matter how good an idea, it will never happen because they do not wish it to happen.
To the person who asked the question, I say find your own path and follow it. Staying true to yourself and your own moral compass can never steer you wrong.
