The following response is an open letter to Dr. Laura, penned by a US resident, which was posted on the internet:

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination.
End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own a Canadian?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an
abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wriggle-room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev.24:10-16). Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev.20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Just to let you guys know that this is from an organisation called Christian Voice (www.christianvoice.org.uk/) and these are genuine questions that people asked. The rest of the Website however is not quite so funny. There's more questions on their like that.

I'm aware that no1 has put a post on here for a while but I'm going to post my views anyway. I was raised a Catholic but have grown to hate my Religion, loathe it on the highest level even. There are so many reasons but the biggest would have to be their views on Homosexuality. I could never agree with an organisation that claims that "Homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered" which basically means that that gay people aren't right in the head and are commiting an extremely sick act. And while they also say that "they must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity", On the topic of gay marriage the current Pope also claims that "Those who would move from tolerance to the legitimization of specific rights for cohabiting homosexual persons need to be reminded that approval or legalization of evil is something far different from the toleration of evil." While I can understand that some people might feel that Mass is totally removed from the rest of the hierarchy of the Church, I can't depersonalise it in that way because I had to learn all this in school (I go to an all boys Catholic School.)

There are loads of other reasons why I despise my Religion. I pretty much disagree with all of their views on morality apart from treating others as you would want to be treated. I also disagree with the power they managed to wield over Ireland since it became independant (I live in Northern Ireland but I'm only 10 minutes from the border and most of my family live in the Republic). For example contraception wasn't made readily available until 1982 (you could only get it if you were married and your doctor would give it to you, which he often wouldn't), divorce was illegal until the nineties (I can't remember the year), and abortion is still illegal. I don't know if any of you have heard of magdalene laundaries, but basically they were institutions set up in Ireland by the Catholic Church whereby if a woman got pregnant before she was married theor families forced them to go to a magdalene laundary, which were controlled by nuns, where they had to work for no money until they gave birth. Then their babies were taken off them and adopted by other families. Often they were physically and mentally abused. Then there were the Christian Brothers schools. Which were basically schools run by Priests where a lot of children were sexually abused.

Another reason is that everybody's so bloody obsessed with what religion you are and sectarianism in Northern Ireland that I've gone off religion. There's loads more reasons but I've ranted enough. Sorry if I've offended anybody but thats just my point of view

I'm a Christian Protestant but i dont believe any of it really. I dont believe in God but i do believe that went dont just die and that is the end. I believe we come back as someone or something else depending on how good we've been in our last life e.g. i dunno if you've been good in a past life you come back as a human but if you've been bad in a past life you come back as a blade of grass lol.
My dad believes in God and eventhough homosexuality is frowned upon i believe that if there is indeed a God he or she wouldn't have given people the gift of gayness if he/she thought there was something wrong about it. Sometimes i do wonder about life and whether homosexuality is wrong but i cant just forget about it so fuck it! I have one shot at life so i might as well make the most of it and enjoy it! Bring on the guys lol!!!!

My dad believes in God but he think homosexuality is ok. I dont know why religion despises gayness. If God does exsist he/she wouldn't have given guys the gift of gayness if he/she thought there was something wrong with it.
