Is there such thing as being bisexual?

I myself am bisexual but insight of recent experiences and conversations I was thinking to myself is there such thing? I am bi… I like women and men, however I do have my favorites…. Men. The truth be told I would rather date and be with a man then a women, I am not exactly sure why, I guess it is just a personal preference. Anyways, I have heard people mention that there is no such thing as being bi, they say well either you are straight or gay. So that is when I started thinking am I gay? I know I like women…. I have a girlfriend, but if I would rather date a guy then a girl would that make me gay? Is telling someone you are bisexual something you do to ease the pain of the real truth? Does it make things easier to tell someone you are bi or is it easier to tell someone you are gay?

There is such a thing as bisexuality, and yes, it's okay to have preferences. When you look at it, sexuality comes down to one main thing, which gender(s) are you physically, romantically and sexually attracted to.

If you are capable of being physically, romantically and sexually attracted to males and females, then you are bisexual. And you still are bisexual even if you prefer men over women or vice versa.

Then you could look at it in a different way, and see that the majority are to some degree bisexual. If you were to look at the Kinsey Scale, you would see that most people have there own placing on the scale, and that most people aren't exclusively one or the other.

On the other hand, I could be wrong...

I agree with Coo Coo. I do believe there is an existing plane of Bisexuality. People's fancies can change over time due to different influences in their life or traumatic events. Just as ones certain "fetishes" can change and morph into a more specific form or a completely different category; therefore explaining why one can like men more, but then like women more say the next month or so.

But me, I just said i was Bi to limit the truth, and I know I did this to ease the social pressure of being in high school and also being "out". So some people say they're Bi to do what i did and some are genuinely Bisexual.

I think that so long as you have the capability to love romantically/sexually/whatever both genders, you're bisexual. I consider myself bisexual, I've had feelings for both genders in the same way, but recently I've been hunting guys

I think we as a community should know better than most others that there is no such thing as black and white. Sexuality, like most other things, is fluid and changing. Sexuality exists on a spectrum (someone has already mentioned the Kinsey scale). Yes, bisexuality exists, but I doubt hardly anyone is equally attracted to both males and females. Within the realm of bisexuality comes predominately homosexual or predominately heterosexual, for instance a homosexual man is attacted to women, but more attracted to men.

I can only agree with what has already been said, as a Bi myself i would obviously say that they exist. When ever my mates try to claim that you can only be on or the other, its annoying but i can kind of see why people claim it

I think the number of bi's is really much lower then most people think.

Well I think there is no such thing as Gay or Str8 everyone is to some degree or another bisexual....like if theres a scale from one to one hundred...1 being totally str8 and 100 being totally gay, no one would ever be a 1 or a 100 everyone os somewhere in between...ergo everyone is to some degree bisexual.

Everyone's technically bisexual, should it be defined as any individual who could physically commit sexual acts with a member of the same sex. There's nothing physically stopping us from having sex with women, nor is there with straight dudes having sex with other dudes.

Should bisexuality be defined based upon the ATTRACTION to another of the same sex, well then it's actually a fact that (I'm pretty sure I read it somewhere) almost every individual experiences SOME sort of homosexual thing in life. Weather it be just admiring someone of the same sex for their looks or being more curious than that, or actually ending up experimenting. And yeah, that includes "straight" people.

Alternatively, should bisexuality be defined as the partner-type of LOVE for another of the same sex... Well then that just makes bisexuality a lot more exclusive to a smaller group of people i guess...

Gay and straight are more abstract than bisexuality, because really... There isn't anything solid stopping us from swingin' towards the other gender at any time.

Yeah I had this question when i was 16 because thats when i started to look at boys as sexually attractive. This is what i found out.... When i first starting having feeling towards other guys i freaked out&gt;&gt;&gt; I was like uhmm am i gay?, I can't be gay i've had plenty of girlfriends and alway liked being with girls, so it was confusing.. Long story short i realized that i'd still get turned on by a cute girl and stilled liked to flirt alot with them, but at the same time i could'nt help but notice when a cute guy walked by... So i guess there is such a thing as a bisexual...go figure
