I strongly agree with the original post. I don't really understand the gay rights movement. I do not feel defined by the fact that I'm bisexual. It does not shape my personality whatsoever. I feel much more defined by my heritage than my sexuality.
No wonder there are still so many people who are confused about sexuality. For one thing, these pride parades create a thick line between heterosexuals and homosexuals, leading people to believe that one's sexuality is set in concrete. They also create the stereotype that all homosexuals are promiscuous and flambuoyant. They have become counterproductive to the gay rights cause.

I also agree with the original post and don't think I'd ever attend a pride event. Its just not my thing. I feel thats like being all up in someones face about your sexuality.

you are friggin rediculous. you may not realize the relationship here but ill point it out. the reason there is more acceptance, is because glbt people are out there, seen and heard. acceptance dosen't come from sitting around and doing nothing.
if we didn't have rallys and parades, we wouldn't feel united as a community, gay marriage wouldn't be legal where it is, and more people would be intolerant. We are not pushing it in peoples faces, we're just letting them know, were here were queer, get used to it. do straights not push it in our faces everyday by holding hands, kissing, and how about the propaganda for straights.
It may piss you off, but if it werent for those parades, you wouldn't be able to be who you are, where you are, and be accepted by those you are accepted by. remember ignorance causes intoleranse. thats why we have rallys

Well the thing is we are born into a world were everyone automatically assumes you are straight, which is a bore.
Gay Pride is here so we can show our confidence and pride, as people with confidence to stand up for what they think is right get respect.
But I would definately say that nowadays it is less of a demonstration and more of a party. Especially in Brighton

Im not rediculous, other people agree with me. all im saying is the pride marches etc are too in peoples faces, which causes people to hav a negative response to it... what would you do if str8 people marched for their pride? why cant everyone be human and act normal... i agree with rocky15's quote
"one thing, these pride parades create a thick line between heterosexuals and homosexuals, leading people to believe that one's sexuality is set in concrete. They also create the stereotype that all homosexuals are promiscuous and flambuoyant."
im not pissed off or having a go im trying to get a point across...

QUOTE: Ok, first there is gay pride, then theres gay pride rallys....
What is up with this? I myself am a bisexual and i still dont get the point of why we need gay pride parades. All it does is cause tension between the straight and gay community, how often do you go into the city and see straight people marching for their pride? you dont. so why should we as gay people be alowed to throw our sexuality into peoples faces... this is where i think hate comes from. When you build a resistance... there will always be war. is that what we as a gay community want?...
GAY is a sexuality... not a race. and ok, fair enough... we get alot of shit out there in the world, but seriously people, look at the world of today in acceptance... and compare it with 20 years ago... things are alot better!
all we got to do as a gay community is put it on the education systems and government, dont blame the public or show off to the public... thats the problem... we need to get the point across to the governments and education systems so sexuality can be taught to next generation and the one after that... so soon enough people will become more acceptant.
Hate today usually depends on how your brought up and educated... and if people at young ages are taught to accept others for who they are and taught that sexuality is differnt with ALOT of people... the world of tomorrow will be much more accepting.
this here is only my opinion, please leave me yours... id like for this messege to be heard by all people so that its clear, that rallys, gay pride marches and resistance is only causing tension and more problems... sure u can be proud to be gay/bi/lesbian or transexual... but that pride should be a good self esteem thing that you keep to yourself.
what we got to do is work towards a better tomorrow in a more political way if this problem is to be sorted out.
I agree wholeheartedly. I'm not into the parades, the pride this, pride that, gay bars gay clubs... all it does is encourage segregation o.0

Well how about until we gain full rights and acceptance in society, we should be "in your face" about it.
Yes, we're all human, and yes, segregation based on anything no one has effect over, ethnicity, colour, gender, sexuality, disability etc... is ridiculous, but it still exists. The point is to change it.
We're not forcing others to become homosexuals, but we're forcing them to accept the obviously mad idea that it should be acceptable for others who have this feeling to get on with it.

I'm positive that most people outside of the gay community look at pride festivals as a joke, mostly because the bigger ones tend to be very outrageous and campy. It's as if it's one big party as opposed to raising awareness. Maybe if the format of prides were changed around a bit to give off more of a meaningful/serious tone, people would take notice more instead of just passing it off as some mardi gras festival.
That being said, I don't really go to prides. It's not my thing, and with how they are now, I'm really not interested in throwing my sexuality in other people's faces.
