I'm atheist, I believe in science, and I believe there is a limit to how much science can explain at any given time.

At this time, science has come a long way, yet I believe it will eventually erode away religions.

Heck, before science proved the process of photosynthesis, the Christian idea of God creating all the plants on earth before he created the sun sounds kind of plausible. Before science concluded that we have light as the result of an emitter of energy, the same Christian idea that God created the sun after creating light and dark seems also quite plausible.

Now, I just read and laugh my head off.

He created all the planets and stars of the universe on one day, yet it took him about a fucking week to make just one? Give me a break, that sounds like a guy that doesn't have efficient time-planning procedures in place.

I am an atheist.

I find the idea of a higher power to be... quixotic. I trust in what there is logical and has proof in. I was raised in a Baptist church by devout parents which is probably what I am most thankful to be enlightened from, Being an outside observer I can see the foolishness occurring and how in manipulates peoples lives. It might be the hell I've went through that allowed this epiphany but either way I'm happy I no longer am one of them.

In essence, the truth is cold and unwelcoming... which is why people cling to the comfort of ancient, closed-minded belief systems.

Atheist here!!! I may not believe in god, but I have a lot of respect to other peoples religions. I see it too often when an Atheist looks down at a theist, and I find that.... well... sickening. To think they would judge a person based on their religion is just sad, exspecially when they just justify there high and mighty additude by saying their not a part of an intolerant, stuck up religion.... Sorry, just me ranting XD... Anyways, the main point is that Im an atheist and proud of it!!!

It's funny how Atheism has about as many interpretations as theism. Of course, I'm an atheist, just not an out-of-the-closet Darwin worshiper. The post by Dvoid saying how we should respect people's religion is a little too politically correct for me. Tolerance is just passive condescension. I think that we should respect people, not their crazy, superstitious beliefs. If we really respect other people, we would openly discuss our religious, political, and philosophical differences. Thanks, I love the view from the soapbox.
