Things you can expect to hear 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Here's a short list of some of the things that you can expect to hear when you come out of the closet to your friends.

-"YAY! NOW I HAVE A GAY FRIEND!"
-"...oh."
-"How long have you been gay?"
-"So who do you like?"
-"Do you have a boyfriend?"

-"Nuh-uh! Shut up! You're kidding!" (Or some variation)
-"That's cool, I have a gay (insert family member like uncle or cousin)"
-"So you like boys?" (Respond with: "That's kind of what gay means...&quot
-"REALLY!? So what do you think of (insert name of fairly attractive friend of the same gender as you)?" (If you are presented with this kind of situation, I advise that you lie your head off and deny any attraction to this person)
-"What made you want to be gay?" (A proper response to this would be a violent physical paddle beating)
-"Why didn't you TELL ME?" (Answer with: "what am I doing right now?&quot
-"Do your parents know?" (if yes, expect "How do they feel?&quot
-"I don't have any problems with gay people, as long as they don't hit on me or anything." (respond with some hysterically funny comment about how you would never hit on someone like that person)
-"I LOVE GAY PEOPLE!" (go into anti-stereotype speech mode)
-"LET'S GO SHOPPING!!" (go into anti-stereotype speech mode and then go shopping)

Post edited by: BATMAN, at: 2006/03/05 20:45

I got

"Oh.... Is that all?" (Um, excuse me, I just risked you turning homophobic on me and boxing my ears and you're acting like it's no big deal. Can't I at least get a hug or something?? >> My thoughts were somewhere along those lines)

and

"So you make out with girls even when you're not drunk. Cool. *Insert suggestive eyebrow wiggle and wink*" ( *headdesk* Please note that straight high school boys can be more shallow than 7th year girls. )

Post edited by: eversweet, at: 2006/03/07 06:29

Great Topic...urmmmmm *searching to remember what my parents said all those (5) years ago...*

Mother said something like "You know I will always love you, no matter what you've done wrong" WELL....URMMM THANKS, I GUESS.

My dad, drove in silence for about 3 miles, before bashing his hand down on the dashboard, scaring me half to death, while shouting "What the hell do you think you're doing?" Before doing impressions of me "Josh, Josh I love you Josh, I want your bum Josh!" I TURN ELMO RED

TO MY MOTHERS CREDIT SHE DID SLAP MY DAD FOR HIS OUTBURST AND SHOUT "Leave him alone Keith, he's going through so much already!!"

AGAINST HER CREDIT THIS NEARLY CAUSED A MOTORWAY PILE UP.

My friends reacted in a very odd way, they kind of went quiet, and when they did say something, it seemed mechincal, and their looks seemed distant, like they were trying desparately hard to recite some past text book quote on EQUAL OPPORTUNTIES. I was to discover their true feeling (and thus my true friends) a lot later than at the time of my confession.

And of course, we've heard them all before. "Well, at least thats one marriage less for me and your dad to pay for." "Have you taken the test?" The mega guiltrip of "Thats okay, I'll take up trainspotting instead of having grand children" And the slightly perverse, yet even more bizare "I don't want you in your brother's room from now on!"

My experience was almost laughable... In school, my best friend and I were both in this peer counciling class. It was complete garbage. We learned how to paraphrase and say "how do you feel about that" . Anyway. I was at my best friend's house one day after school when I decided to come out to her. After I told her, she started going on with all this crap we'd did in peer counciling like "why do you think you're gay"... ummm...I wonder... I told her to shut up and actually talk to me. She burst out laughing and apoligised. This confirmed to me that the class was a load of bull

a few of my ones...

"can we please stop talking about this now and get high..." (I had just told 2 people at once, this was one of them. )

"Wow, for a guy gay you really don't dress gay at all. or listen to madonna. you sure you're gay?"

"O SHIT!"

"well, now I'm torn between saying something nice and supportive, or just having a laugh and yelling argh fag and jumping out the nearest window" (I love theo! ^_^)

but really, I've been pretty lucky. aside from the o shit guy. he just got mad at me for like a week for not telling him earlier or something, somehow it meant I didn't trust him...*confused*

Re:Things you can expect to hear 2 Years, 6 Months ago
heh, the response i got was mainly one of "oh....." and they'd look away uninterested... nothing against my friends, they're jus pro-gay. Supportive in their own way i guess

Apart from one friend who told me "y'know, i always thought of you as my gay friend before"... I was like "oh, thanks... i think"

And there was a friend of a friend who once knew wanted to know what I did for sex.... I hastily turned the conversation round
