"There is a group called Schools OUT (check out
http://www.schools-out.org.uk/news/contents.htm) who campaign for the rights of LGBT pupils in British schools. They are in the process of revamping their web site and are wanting to have a youth section. Part of the proposals for this include a sort of student toolkit that would tell young people like yourselves what your rights are in school in an effort to make you feel more empowered and better able to challenge any homophobia you come across.
Do you think this would be useful? What kind of things would you like to see covered in it?
Currently the proposal revolves around a list of questions (such as “My brother is gay and everyone says I have caught AIDS from him because we share a bedroom. No one will sit by me now. What should I do?”) followed by a list of reasons as to why your school must address this.
What type of questions would you like answered?
If you don’t like this idea what else could be created to function as a national resource to help make schools better places for all students (coming at it from an LGBT perspective)?
What general things would you like to see on a youth page for Schools OUT or do you think a specific youth section is unnecessary?
All ideas greatly appreciated and will be fed into the web site where possible. "
So please use this Forum to post any ideas or experiences you have that could benefit the Schools Out scheme.
