well for me all i realy care about is personality in a friend but in a GF its that plus looks I dont have a problem making friends when I chouse to but as far as GF I am perpared to whate my hole life to get the perfict one. Rather than settle. As far as looks fading thats only partaily true if you start from around the beginning of puberty and take care of your looks you well have littel problem keeping them, lothans, soaps, diet and exresize. If somthing drastic happens you can repare it with surgrys though you well never look 100% the same but you well be good enough. I'm a Traqnsexual so I have done lodes of research on this.

I definatly think that both looks and personality come into play somehow.
Looks should come in at the start. It should shock you, amazing you. Make you stop. It should be music to your eyes, you should want to look more and more. When your eyes are done going crazy, you should dig deeper for their personality. If errors occur here, you definatly know things will not work.
SO basically, personality over-rules looks.
Personality over-rules because even though you may not be attrated to someone visually, their personality can definatly steal your attention. By relating to them, your eyes are not captures but your heart is. =)
With your hearts feeling, you instantly forget everything in front of you and the "this is my soul mate" takes in its faithful place. =)

If a relationship is a loaf of bread, looks are the yeast which helps things stay together, personality is the flour without which there is no bread!
Gosh, I am such a poet.

Post edited by: Boku, at: 2007/04/12 08:30

To put a new spin on this, I want to ask how important looks are to people, obviously everyone has some want of a combination between both looks and personality, and some of you have expressed it very well. But when if ever can having looks make personality irrelevant or the other way around?

hmmm... thats a pretty good observation... at some point we all look for what is considered good looks in society and I would be a hypocrite to say that I dont but lets be realistic... doesnt everyone? I know so many that say that personality is more important than looks but even those people have rejected an invitation to go out with someone who isnt very good looking.
To be honest, on my part... in order for me to look at someone twice they have to be cute... according to my standards... and trust me... my standards of cute are different of what cute generally is... even my friends say that some people I like arent cute... but to me they are, so I guess it depends on the person. But yeah I guess people have to be cute for me to even bother getting to know their personalities.

for me, its about how he makes me feel. that usually means he has a good heart and that of course can mean he has a good personality. looks are nice, but if you cant hold a conversation then whats the point? thats my take on this.
id have to say that both looks and personality can override the other, depending on who you are.

Post edited by: LostChaos, at: 2007/04/16 12:56

well... i dont think either one makes the other one irrelevant... we all look for a combination of both... but like i said before... in order for me to get to know someone's personality... first they have to be cute at some degree... because you wont be attracted to someone's personality when you havent even gotten to know that person... but looks are what makes you approach a person to get to know their personality.
Now if we are talking about what's more important when you already know someone, then I will say personality 100%. I know some hot people that are jack asses... trust me... i already dumped a couple lol... but yeah 100% personality (remember this is given the fact that I already know the person, and for me to have even bothered to get to know them, they have to be cute)
Get my point?

I both agree and disagree with this statement. I agree you don't walk up to a random straner that you do not find attractive an say "Hi, I think you have a good personality, let's see if I'm right." But there are case that you get to know a person's personality knowing they are not what you originally thought to be attractive, and you find them more attractive due to that; I will gve examples of a work relationship, or meeing through friends where the original intent is not a sexual or romantic relationship.

I agree that this is the case, sometimes it is for the better, sometimes it is not.
