Vegan Needing Advice 8 Months, 1 Week ago
So I've been a vegetarian for about two years, and a vegan for about the second half of those years (I love it by the way ). Strangely enough though, until a few days ago I never really ate any vegetables (go figure). But I've started eating vegetables, and whoa! My energy has shot through the roof and I get what I call a "vegetable high" when I eat veggies. It's great. It's like being on crack or something lol .

But here's the problem: I'm not what you would necessarily call fat, but I do have a bit of a gut. I actually always have. Would eating a lot of veggies on a vegan diet allow me to get rid of this gut of mine? Any other advice? Anyone can answer, but I'd really appreciate it if some other vegans could help me out .

I'm a vegetarian, not vegan, but I'd say that if you wanna lose the gut, just get more active. Go jogging and stuff. I'm not sure how vegetables will help, I don't really eat vegetables.

The equation is incredibly simple
Food + Exercise = A more happier you.

The only help vegetables will do is keep your body and mind healthier.

Good luck!

It's not just meat that makes you fat. You said that you haven't eaten vegetables until very recently - so that could have meant you were eating a lot of things. To try and prove my point, I raided my cupboard and a little pot of noodles (more of a snack then a meal) was closing in on 500 calories. Pasta and such is good for you, but carbs in excess will load you with weight. I think that yes, eating more vegetables and less of whatever you diet used to be made of will help you lose weight. Fruit and veg can make a very healthy diet, a LOT better then vegan things other then fruit and veg.

That's just sorta what I know, but I can't talk, heehee. I'm /cuddly/, damnit!

How can you be a vegetarian without eating vegetables? Not eating vegetables on a regular diet is bad enough, but not eating them when you're also not eating meat... You'd think vegetarians would be eating double to catch up. Do/Did you just eat pasta and chocolate or something?

Lol @ above.
This vegetable high you speak of, I would imagine is just an excess of energy that you should probably use up by exercising otherwise the body will just convert and store it in your gut . And the best way to minimize excess energy getting stored as fat is to eat a lesser amount of more filling foods and at dinner if you don't go for a late jog or walk try to make that the smallest meal of the day. You might have to Google what those filling, and lower energy foods but I *think* its stuff like cabbage, general rabbit foods lol, some cereals?, nuts possibly I don't really know i just watch it on the morning shows sometimes lol. I'm sure some others on here would know some good things to have.

I used to be vegan until a couple of weeks ago, when I got too ill to carry on (because I'm gluten-intolerant and anaemic, so i basically couldnt eat anything). It's horrible, cos it kills me to have to eat animal products! I'm still veggie but I feel so guilty eating eggs and stuff.

Keep at it! It's really good youre doing it. As a vegan you do have to watch your diet a bit more as it's tempting to just reach for crisps or something as a snack rather than making a proper vegan meal, which I admit is a bit more difficult. A plus is that you can't snack on chocolate! I've put on a stone since I stopped being vegan . You will probably lose a bit of weight anyway on a vegan diet, but excersise is the key. And keep eating those veggies!

I'm a vegetarian and I have a gut (that I am working on getting rid of *happy dances*) and I eat lots of vegetables. What you need to do is start exercising more, burn off the calories that you put on and start working up muscle.
