I personally do NOT understand self cutting it just doesn't register in my brain that it would be a thing to do to relieve pain. It really is just... I can understand because some people have mental disorders and cant choose between right or wrong but cutting is not the answer, if u can make a rational dissipation then do so, because cutting isn't going to help any more than sitting there thinking about it, it relieves you of momentarily pain but then it comes back..

I am not at all a cutter or anything but if I understand correctly people who enjoy it like it because they have control. They have pain in their lives but they can't control that, but being able to choose when you have pain is empowering. This is my take, but I could be way off base *shrugs*

I agree with the statement that it empowers you. But i also don't understand the whole concept of the action. I would think that cutting yourself would give you even more problems to deal with.

Apart from the feeling of control, another reason people cut is because it relieves the pain. Sometimes emotional pain can be too much to bear for some people. I used to cut for that reason, I had alot of pain, I've stopped and haven't for about 4 months, and I've learnt it isn't an easy thing to give up.
The biggest message I can give out to everybody is don't cut, all it will do is cause more problems in the end. It might seem like the quick fix, but it can lead on to more horrible situations...

The reason it relieves pain is because it encourages the release of endorphines in the brain, which has a couple of effects.. it dulls the pain, and they are the same chemicals released when you feel good, so it would bring pleasure as well..
My advice to those who do this... Stick to sex and chocolate, won't stain yer clothes that way

i started cutting last year when i was being bullied and put under pressure and even when i moved schools i still continued to cut my arms coz it's a hard habit to brake and it took away the pain. i haven't cut my-self for a while now and hope not to any time soon.
i can see how you don't quite understand but not many people do understand unless they have harned them-selves.
try not to start cutting your-selves, if you have a problem discuss it with some-one or seek advice of a docter if you start harming very badly.
and i also suggest that you do something that you enjoy e.g i would go to a theme park. (and stick to the chocolate )

to start out with, i'm going to say i'm a guy and i used to cut, still want to a lot, but for some reason when people think of people who cut they think of females, not always so. but i was going through a rough point in my life, where my parents didn't trust me, controlled every aspect of my teenage life, and were just complete assholes, ok yeah it was just my parents. i would come home from school, and get blessed out for something ridiculously simple, and then of course that night still feeling the burn of my tears on my cheeks, and still feeling the anger, hate, and depression built up inside me i would cut, and after the third time i noticed a progression, the more i cut the larger and deeper the cuts were, i only cut four times, only because on my fifth and sixth tries i was rudely interrupted. but being that some people don't know how much your pain hurts, they can never truly understand why someone would cut. you have to actually live as that person to be able to say that you think it's stupid, or that you can't see why someone would choose to hurt themselves, and i'll admit i think about doing it again almost every night, but i won't, because i know that that's not the best way to handle things. but you cannot judge someone because they would cut, because you don't know what they're going through.
