Please stick to facts when arguing... Makes it more challenging to bust your bubble.
Mariah Carey is RUMORED to have a 5 octave range, and she has not recorded the highest note ever. The largest proven octave range for a female was 7 octaves, and a man was 5. Which means Mariah isn't as you put her at all.
Freddy Mercury had about 4 octaves of singing range, plus he had a musical genius like no other. It's easy to compare him to the Mozart of our time, because of his songwriting and performing skills. And sales numbers don't matter at ALL for skill, and if they did Queen would still have crushed Mariah, cause they had REAL fans and will last a hundered years, whilst Mariah's popularity will most likely have died out in less than 20 years from now.

Now there are many voices who would be easy to call great, but greatest isn't actually possible because of difference in opinion. I think it all varies from what genre you see it, like Freddie is the best all round singer, whilst Ronnie James Dio is the greatest metal singer. Then you have soul which is where Aretha Franklin rules, and in folk you have voices like Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez....
There are SO many people to choose from, so it's impossible.
