Coming Out, Crucial? 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
allright so heres the story,
im a 16 year old male, i know i am gay and its fine and cool with me.. i am out to some friends at school but not that many. i was gonna tell me parents eventually but i honestly dont think its that big of a deal..

So do you guys think its important to come out if your comfortable with it? i just dont seriously see it as that big of a deal that it often becomes to others.

might i add that i am the type of person that nobody would know if i didnt tell them...

Post edited by: descrete reflection, at: 2007/12/06 12:49

If its not bigger deal, just tell them.
Would you rather you tell them or them finding out from someone else and what happens when you get a bf are you going to sneak around and lie to them?? or you going to open with them and then you dont have to do that and everything will be fine.
Do they ask you questions like "are there any girls your interested in atm??" god i hated that question. lol

it sounds like you're in the exact same situation i was in a couple months ago.
i came out to like 10 firends then my brother. after that i really didn't care who knew, but i figured that i should tell my parents because 1) i didn't want them finding out from somebody else and 2) i felt that i owed it to them to be truthful about myself.
when i told my dad, the only thing he said to me was that i don't need to broadcast it, i can just live the way i want and it's really nobody's business

the best advice I ever got about coming out was to only tell someone if you need to, if there's no reason, you don't have to, if there's no repercussions then you can choose for yourself

coming out at the wrong time can be a truly terrible mistake, but don't be scared that you'll never find the right time, because I'm sure you will :]

I pretty much realised one day that I would have to come out and from then on it was somthing I knew I had to do. If you don't feel that way it's fine, but just remember, the longer you leave it the harder it will become if you do decide to tell them.

If your comfortable with your sexuality then tell your parents, if not maybe just wait a bit longer until you feel more ready. Maybe go through what you would say to them and a few possible reactions.
But I'm sure your parents would rather find out your gay from you than some randomer at school.

I guess depends how mcuh people around are you so 'into' your life and what they expect.I'd say it's not a big deal to everyone but some might see it like it.

What you have to think of is...

How would they take it?

Do you think they probably suspect anything?

Would it benefit you if you told them?

I asked myself those three questions before I came out and pretty summed up that they would take it fine and in my situation better for them to take it in now and comes to terms with it before I stand on their doorstep when I'm 22 with my partner in one hand and the GT mag in the next.

Plus it benefited me because I didn't have to keep any lingering thoughts kept in so much and go with the flow of people mentioning girlfriends, etc.. and getting married and having my own kids, etc...
