Right lovely members of the GYC, here is the space for you to have your say on anything and everything surrounding homophobic bullying in schools. Remember that any thing posted will be treated annonymously by Schools Out, who are concerned with getting a feeling of how young people are coping with bullying in schools.

If you would rather not post your ideas here and email Schools Out directly then their contact details are on the previous topic Schools Out: An Introduciton.

I hope that you will get behind what we here at the GYC think is really important work.

Best,

Rob

An anomynous support group is the obvious first step. I think we've all felt alone at school sometimes. Beyond that, all I think think of is a petition for a blanket homophobic bullying policy from Parliment like they have with racism, but of course it only effects 7% of the population, the school populance can't vote, and the government would face an outcry trying to introduce that into a relgious school.

Hmm, A name and shame policy, where pupils/staff can anonymously (but obviously cite reasons), name and shame their school for failing on homophobic bullying.

For example, vandalism at my school is usually corrected very quickly, within a week. One guy got expelled for painting on the wall.
However, someone used paint remover or something, not completely obvious, but definitely visible. They wrote homophobic language and the name of the person they were bullying on a yellow door in the school. This has been there as long as I remember, and never (in my knowledge) tried to be repaired.

Another example could be a pupil reporting homophobic bullying but getting no support from the school.
