Command & Conquer- Red Alert 2

Ok, so it's an oldy; but in my opinion one of the BEST strategy games ever created.

Who plays it?

If u do give me a shout and we'll link up on the server.

I think C&C Generals was the best even after EA bastardized it

See, the original Red Alert was a great game, but due to the sheer power of a computer it was jolly hard to beat in a Skirmish, and the whole thing occasionally got a little slow. Red Alert 2 was an excellent game, and Yuri's Revenge made it even better, but I didn't like the way that each unit had an equivilent. Part of the charm of the original was that each side had its specialities: Soviets had Air supemacy, but the Allies ruled the seas, things like that, and the unit avliabilities reflected as such. Dolfins and Squids? That's just getting silly. Generals definately had the best engine for multiplayer games, though by far the worst campaign setting. The best campaign remains the original. I miss Seth.

I'm showing my age here, but I remember the original C&C. At the time, I was big into Warcraft 2. I then migrated over to Total Annihilation (perhaps my all-time favorite RTS). Last year, I put in some with with C&C Generals/Zero Hour. I thought it was a well done game!

I prefer the original Red Alert, as it is more direct with resources and units. Red Alert 2 is certainly an improvement on past Westwood games. This is very high praise from me, considering that Tiberian Dawn and Dune 2 were superb top-notch RTS games to begin with (at least by any of my own measures). I prefer playing as Soviets, as their hard-crush army fits the gameplay style for me perfectly. If it is generals though, I prefer the strategic, technological, and tactically advanced United States by a long shot.

Post edited by: LordInfadula, at: 2008/05/23 13:03

I've got to have my fix of the rediculous villain Kane. I think Yuri's a humorous attempt, but he's just not quite as evil.

I mean in CnC 3, when Kane first makes his appearance, from behind that pillar. That's textbook villain right there.
