Why Is It, in school, if one student calls another "faggot" and its considered a joke, but if a white student where to call a balck student a nigger, he would be punished?

I am the only one who thinks this is unfair?

I agree, it is definitely unfair. If you wanted to take a stand, you could confront your school's administration and ask them why they support descrimination against homosexual people - which many schools are, in essence, doing by ignoring the obvious inconsistency you pointed out.

Because everyone's supid. You're stupid because you called a guy a nigger, which you should understand is like calling a gay person a faggot. But soceity is stupid because it encourages people words that are obviously harmful and disrespectful and everyone has a double standard about everything: it;s all right to call someone a faggot because it's "OK" but its scanalous to even use or talk about the word nigger. People just need to shut up when they feel like using those kind of words but they are too ignorant to understand how much they affect people.

I think I have some actual info on this.

Back in high school, the GSA gave out surveys to each grade, basically trying to see what people`s opinions on things were like. I had the chance to look over some of the surveys. One of the questions was, ``Would you be offended if someone used a homophobic slur?`` It was mostly divided on that; some people said yes, some said no (I think that it is an accurate percentage). The following question asked, ``Would you be offended if someone used a racial slur?`` Obviously, we were trying to point out that homophobic slurs are just as bad as racial slurs. As you would expect, most that should also be taken into account. I hope this helps in any way. people said yes, but there was a surprising amount of people who said no. I wonder if this was just filled out by the ignorant and bored kid who didn`t really care one way or another how the survey turned out, but there were quite a few with that response.

And I live in Vancouver, Canada, a pretty liberal city and country, so that should be taken into account. I hope this helps you with what you`re looking for.

I think the reason for the unfair treatment of the two words is due to the longer history that exists behind racial slurs, and the bigger issue that has previously been made about such types of words. There is obviously a problem here, and it should be fixed.

How to go about fixing it? Turn this into an issue. Make a point about it somewhere that is is going to be heard, and make sure that it is not ignored and pushed aside. This is of course easier to do if you are out, but let the school, community, and really as far as you can know that this is wrong and slurs based on sexuality should be akin to racial slurs, or slurs against women etc.
