Re:looks or personality? 1 Year, 4 Months ago
I think that the look is the thing that draws one's sensual attention to another, the thing that causes that uncontrollable tingle in your stomach... however, I think that if one is to engage in a meaningful relationship, the looks (or tangible attributes, as you say) become not nearly as important as the spiritual/emotional characteristics.

I would be hypocritical to deny that I place importance upon physical attractiveness. But how far is such satisfactory for a good, and meaningful friendship/relationship? In this regard, a balance of a good mind and a good body does it for me...

Another thing with regards to attractiveness; for me, good looks are good, but something that really sticks with me is charisma. Say, for example, you have a person who is not particularly 'good-looking' however, that person is sharp, witty, and has a healthy and engaging mind, that, in my opinion, can mean so much more than a good-looking, but dry and cold person.

Does that make any sense?

I think that BavarianMW392 hit the nail on the head quite appropriately there.

Post edited by: irrefragable22, at: 2007/04/21 23:04

I'm not entirely sure people can completely change their personality and not their looks. I was thinking that you can change your looks due to plastic surgery and working out etc. that does change how you look.

Changing personality can seem to be hard though, we get so caught up in a specific type of action that it does not just stop point-blank. Think of it as changing a habit of smoking, if you'v eever had to do that you know it is not that simple.

Its quite ironic that a site like this coudl have such a debate. Looks are not important in my book. I used to find sum girls ugly, den wen i got 2 know them i began fancying them, dat was down to personality! However i beleive that the gay community is mcuh more accustomed to "hot" peopel and it as a community is extremely different to a hetrosexual community. People go out nowadays lookin 4 hot guys.

First impressions, well u dnt tlk 2 sum1 wid out seeind em unless ur on somamt like ehre. so the idea of looks nt countin 4 much, isnt reali true. Becuz on here unless u have a picture and ur equally as hot as da guy in da "entrance lobby" main discussion den no1 really talks 2 u.

I agree dat "uglieness" can affect a personality. which i think is very wrong. People shouldnt Judge but they do. ITs da society we all live in, i believe freindship is the best way tos tart a relationship that way u can see their full blown persoanlity in bloom or if its tn so good withering. That way u can like sum1 and not reali know y and it wud probably last a lil onger to.

Looks don't matter in my book. I want someone who wants me most of all. I want someone who understands me, you I can love, who can love me, who I understand, who is a good person, and so much more. I do want someone I am attracted to, but if I found a person who had all the above qualities I would color myself lucky for the rest of my life, even if they weren't good looking. I find brains and pesonality so much sexier then any kind of physicla characteristic.

I try to look for both, but i mostly fall inlove with whats inside. Its not always whats on the outside, but i still have to be attracted to them, not saying that they have to be hot. Iv dated some not so hot ppl, but they where hot to me and i loved them

I also try to go for both, but most of the time it starts off with the looks and then developes into personality. There has only been one exception to that, but he was straight so it doesn't matter. Now I just focus on anyone who's caring and honest with me (personality). Looks are always a bonus

Re:looks or personality? 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
It seems there were a few questions throughout this thread. So not knowing which to answer, I'll just make a few comments on the general theme.

I find myself going more for personality these days, I've never had a problem with dating someone that's not a hunk, and I'm not particularly interested in muscles anyway. Sure, I can see a really hot guy and immediately wonder and want and lust, but I know that I probably wont get that lucky, and I needn't be that lucky either, as I know loads of guys that have amazing personalities.

Perhaps one of the advantages to meeting people online is that I get to know their mind first, explore who they really are before I see a photo, or before I meet them and discover the photo was taken 5 years ago and they don't look like that anymore

Personality is more important.
