You right, I did not distinguish correctly when it came to sports example as that deals with affirmative action...my bad
But Everything else, to my knowledge, is correct. Affirmative action and BEE are schemes that have been initiative simultaneously and hand-in-hand to correct the wrongs that were done.
Everything that you have said corresponds to what I have said...in the South African context only.
Oh well...

Post edited by: 2hot_2touch, at: 2006/10/29 19:38

I think racism in general is what ignorant ppl do and it's because they do not truly understand a race that they have to insult them. It only further degrades a person's personality and denounces THEIR race since such squalid words are coming outta their bogus mouths, LOL
wooho, congrats to me for using muchos sat words

I think everyone is a little racist. From thinking chinese all have little willies (sorry) or by teasing the indian on the end of a sales call or we won't think of dating a person with a certain ethnicity. What annoys me is that people think it's mainly a problem only whites have, when plenty of asians won't hear of their offspring having relationships with anyone black or white, for example. Variety gives life it's spice.

racism= a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement.
Not nazi youth with executive membership or kkk member. That doesn't make racism any less evil or despicable but everyone including "good people" can be racist and exhibit racism.
It's difficult for most people to beleive that they might of said or done something which was racist, and that only contributes to the problem. When people can pinpoint racism within themselves, it is only then that they can start to change those behaviours and thoughts.
When people say "I have lots of (choose race) friends and most of them are actually (insert verb)."
Or "Most (insert race) people are (insert verb) but not all."
People try and say to themselves "I'm not racist. That's just a fact."
But those are comments that don't do any good whatsoever. Stop putting people in boxes.

Post edited by: pinkchair, at: 2006/11/05 04:08

Racism basically stems from sterotypes that are spun round negatively used to make other races seem inferioir of superior. However, although racism is wrong, sterotypes is another thing. Of course, it is wrong to meet an asian boy and immediately think that he's smart but this stereotype didn't just pop out of the air one day and attach itself to the asian race, it must course come from somewhere..
Sterotypes and simply statisticcs that at heart, are true. For instance this whole acting 'Black' thing. Being black often means that you are close to your black culture. As different races begin to intergrate into counrties, let's say Britian, soon the generations begin to class themselves as more cultural british then culturally black. And by culturally black, I mean listening to music such as Rnb, reggae and hip-hop that has originated from past black communities and so become a big part of the average black peron's lives. And by culturally British, I mean having strong british values such as education and family (not saying that these aren't values in other races). It seems that in these 'diversiied' countries, the generations have to almost forget there culture to be there own person and classed as an active part of the new society. It seems like diversifying in fact means conforming to the cultures of that country rather than the true meaning of the mixing oand sustaining of different cultures.
I mean, Why can't a black person, born in Britian keep with their culture? It seems by saying that acting 'Black' is bad sterotype, you are in fact putting down the Black culture itself and saying one cannot be proud of their black culture and be apart of their black culture without being part of a 'diversified' country. I mean, isn't that the whole point of being diverse. Differnt colours and races being proud of who they are and where they came from with out conforming to the traditions of that country? Rnb, Hip Hop and all that are part of the black culture and due to that, part of the average black peron's life. It's only normal for the average black person to look up and like succesful black people such as P Diddy and imitate them. It is only when some says that because you are black, you HAVE to like this or you SHOULD act like this. It is when the statistic of the majority of black people liking 'black' music of other 'black' ideals is used to say EVERY black person must conform to those ideals and represents those ideals when it becomes a derogatory stereotype. Acting black is simply a general term used to describe the culture and the ways of the majority that belong to that race. It's only when people of the race are forced to conform to the term rather than embrace the new one they are born into when it becomes racist.
And to end, just as black people have their own culture, so does every other race, and that's why acting a certain colour is used as a general, as it describes the cultural background and ways of the majority of the race.

What????? Here your kinda saying that black people follow this sterotype of being gangsters. I hate the black sterotype of black people being in to guns but I don't think it's true. It seems that you think it is true by saying there's no need to be a gangsta, 'cause there not already. And slang. OMG. Every1 uses slang. You should be proud of slang. Its the language modern youth and represents evolution. And again, attaching slang to the black community is racist. Just because there's slang, why does it have to be black? Plenty of other races have there own slang words that have found their way into modern society. It's a way of expression and it's only the way one uses it when it turns negative just with any other 'proper' dictionary words.

Racism is a pretty complex. I my self try to understand why so many americans are trying to push immigrants out of the US? When we proclaim "liberty, equality and the persuit of happiness." ? We are all sometimes a little racist. LIke when we acknowledge that some Asians are really smart. This is based on the fact that in the Japanese culture education is placed as one of the most important things in life. In the US everything is very mixed but when someone in your town has been robed they usually will say "Oh it was an African American or a Hispanic person. They that because the criminality rates from the minorities are usally a bit higher. Or from people that come from Colombia, they call us drug adicts, traffequers. This is based on the fact that most of the drug around the world is control by the colombian cartels. But then the question is.
Should we really accept those stereo types and therefore categorise a certain culture just because they usually do things this way and that way?
I belive that humanity is very complex and racism has resulted as a form of categorising people, so we could understand them as a whole but usually these stereotypes never include the good characteristics of the culture. We export incredible amounts of flowers to the world. Lets say the Muslim nations sometimes they are chategorized as terrorist or radicals. But we never see the culture behind the masks. Muslims have an incredible history and rich music but unfortunatly some of their beliefs are extremely radicals. Yet that does not mean that everyone is the same way only a small percentage are the one who tarnish the picture.
I believe that we do categorise some people being the wya they are because we search for an easy way to understand the culture. But what happens is that we sometimes only take in count the bad things. I believe that the best thing to do is not to generalize and to speak to everysingle person as if they were a race of their own becuase we are all different yet the one thing that has brought us together is our belives and feelings.

it's pathetic... all that determines the colour of your skin is what part of the world you were born in, or the mix of that of your mother and father...
does it really make someone different? it's only like having blue, green, or brown eyes!
one of the supermarket chains has benned black jelly babies... that's only making matetrs worse in my eyes! the way it's going we'll not be aloowed to write in black ink anymore!
it's just a colour!!! why can't people see that!?
we're all people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I very large topic indeed.
Now I live in Australia and although our alleged reputation is for equality and multi-culturalism, we are of all nations one of the worst in the world. Here we have our Indigenous Australians (the black ones that were here originally until the British government landed and blasted the shit out of them). Now of our population they make up 2% of out 25 million citizens. They are highly disliked by a lot of the White Australian population, however it is in fact perhaps justifiable. The Indigenous Australians (also known as Aboriginies {polite} and Coons {insult}) make up for over 20% of total prison inmates! That is over 9 times the proportion of the total Indigenous Australians. In all, that makes Indigenous Australians 12 times more likely to commit a crime than White Australians! Also, a petty 6% pass year 12 and even less move to tertiary education whilst 81% of non-Aboriginal students pass year 12. They're life expectancy is over 20 years less than White Australians and they are more likely to smoke, suffer obesity, remain unemployed, require government assistance and become alcoholics. They would also be more likely to become drug addicts if they could afford it, instead they sniff petroleum all day.
You may ask iwhy I mentioned all these statistics, reason being is that Racism can be justifiable and very well earnt. I feel no sympathy for our Indigenous Australians; They complain, whinge and defy and quite frankly I'm bloody sick of it. All they do is chew up White Australias Tax dollars and we see no improvement from ther dismal kind...
