Stereotypes for Gays/Bi-sexuals!? 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago
There are many stereotypes about how gay men look and act, but that's all they are — stereotypes. Not all gay men like fashion, listen to dance music, or live in big cities. The stereotype of a high-pitched voice or a limp wrist is simply the stuff seen in movies. Not all gay men are petite or feminine-looking.

Likewise, not all petite, feminine-looking, limp-wristed men are gay! Lots of gay men are big guys with facial hair who enjoy sports and can't tolerate show tunes. Bottom line — you should never assume anything about someone's sexual orientation because of how he looks or acts. I was annoyed by someone who said all gays are pretty-looking; O.K most are (I've been looking around, lol ) but there are some (like myself) who aren't feminine-looking or just plain ugly (although I never met an ugly gay, unless I look in the mirror....CRACK... ) Do you agree with stereotyping? Or do you think something different??
No offence or discrimination intended.

Personally, I hate gay/bi people who insist on following stereotypes to the letter. The only out gay people I've known were these guys from our school who INSISTED on dressing effeminately, having crazy piercings, pink hair, the lot. I normally wouldn't care, and just let them do what they want, but they just reinforced those annoying stereotypes to people who knew them. It really pissed me off

Post edited by: MC., at: 2007/11/05 00:48

This has to be the single most hypocritical post across the whole forums. How can you say that you were annoyed when someone said about all gays being 'pretty' and then agree with it and support such a stereotype, when the whole point of your post is that stereotypes are bad?

It's a shame because you raised some good points. Although I am all for stereotypes: without them no one would have a place and everyone would be loose cannons. Whilst that sounds good, it isn't, as human nature dictates that we always look to be led by someone/something; an ideal one should aspire to attain.

Post edited by: msp880, at: 2007/11/10 04:15

-.- when I was reading the post....I looked at my hand and it was limp -.- Lol haha

Ok, so yes, people hate stereotypes, but whatever. I do follow the gay stereotype from time to time. Not that I'm trying to....Sure, I'm a little femmy, but I'm not a girl...-.- and fine, I caught myself with the limp wrist. Maybe my voice is a little high, but it isn't like I'm forcing it to be high. My hand just does it....my voice is just as it is and the fem moments come and go.

I donno what my point for this was anymore =/ haha

the stereotypes piss me off. i dont really fit into any of the gay ones, apart from sometimes being slightly camp but doesnt bother me that much.
but everyone gets stereotyped so i try not to let it bother me too much.

I know pretty gays
I know ugly gays
I know gays who dance
I know gays who like sport
I know emo gays
I know nerdy gays
I know mean gays
I know nice gays

But really, stereotypes do effect us. If you want to stick it to homophobes, people tend to act stereotypically gay. Straight girls love it when you act all stereotype-ish, and they often encourage it. I think the gay community is becoming more diverse. I like fashion, and i don't dress masculinely, i spend a while on my hair and sometimes i put concealer over my pimples. I can't stand listening to kylie minogue, i can't dance, i don't act, i listen to grunge music, i'm not ditzy and i don't revere Paris Hilton.

Stereotypes can be true, and they can be an indication for who's gay when you can't go around screaming it out. However stereotypes are a root of homophobia.

Well they arent always true, bad or good. But they are what they are and they'll probably always exist as long as we are different.

Just be who you are deep inside . Whether it be the most flamey , campy , little princess pink . Or the straightest acted gay in the world . Or in between like most people are! (gosh I'm stereotyping most people to be normal..) It doesn't matter what others see you as . However you shouldn't be something you are not. As long as you are happy!

The stereotypes are neither wrong or right way to act. Everyone cant help thinking of stereotypes because that is human nature... So just try to somehow ignore it and shrug it off or something lol!

The only thing that matters is you are true to yourself, are happy and not hurting anyone.

Post edited by: sharazisspecial, at: 2007/11/29 08:51
