What fraction of people in the world a gay really? 2 Years, 1 Month ago
I just wanted to know what everyone here has heard when it comes to the percentage of the population. I've heard 1% (guys), 4%(both) which i think is most accurate but my most reliable source was 10% (both) but i'm doubting that one. Also once a kid i knew said that one in three where gay (if we were so lucky) which i think is plain rubbish. What has everyone else heard?

I think it's hard to pinpoint an EXACT percentage as most gays are still in the closet. I remember hearing it was something like 25%, though. Could be wrong.

I've heard lots of figures but i heard one in thirty from a reliable source... so i'd go with that x one in three!? haha i wish!

my teacher and me were talkin about it and she thinks one in five but that can't be true. Maybe one in five have had homosexual experiences.. but this is people not guys and i'd say more straight girls have had homosexual experiences than straight guys have.. i wonder if there's more gay guys or more lesbians..

Most major GLBT political organizations confide in the numbers from psychologists that say that 1 in every 10 guys are gay...of course, this number could be higher or lower depending on where you are in the world...but on average thats what most support. I think that they define it as "those practising homosexual lifestyles" or something like that...check out some of the different organizations if ya wanna get more info i guess.

i heard like 1 in 5... but come on... get real! Everyones gay! ^_^ they just dont realize it and are too afraid they'll like the sex to try it, thats why they have to act homophobic. all males are gay, all girls are les, and one day, despite our intelligence and advances in medical science, the world is going to end because all males and females are going to realize they are homosexuals ^_^

Haha.. I agree, whole-heartedly.

But I did hear, I think on GMTV, and that IS a trustworthy source, that studys show that at least one person out of an average school class is homosexual. I pride myself in the knowledge that that's me!

i agree that the percentage is probably one in ten. but then again i beleive that gay is a state of mind and not sexuality. gay is how u act...not how u feel. for myself im basically a straight guy who just likes guys. never act gay and never plan to. if you add in ppl who classify themselves as i do, then it could be 20%

i think it's impossible to say, and i truly beleive that everyone has a fraction of 'gayness in them' but are afriad to let it out and surpress it out of fear... look at the romans and greeks - in those days practically everyone was at least bi!
